you should definitely post it. but when I can't hit the ball I just go back to hitting chip shots with my feet together then work up from there. then hit some bigger shots with the "hinge and hold" phil mick shot then gradually move on to bigger swings/longer clubs. It always does the trick for me. good luck

Hey guys I have a really nooby question.

I thought all these tournaments like Masters, The players. I thought each golfer goes around the 18 hole course once. and then tally up the score. so they play 18 holes. Why do these tournaments take like 3-4 days to finish? are they playing the whole course each once a day and then tally the total score at the end?

That is a a really nooby question, but I'll take it at face value.

Nearly every golf course used in competition has 18 holes. Most stroke play tournaments are 72 holes long - 18 holes per day for four days. Lowest total number of strokes at the end wins.

Settling a tournament over 18 holes would be like playing 1 quarter of an NBA game.

now that's a comparison Jetto can get down with

Waking up at 5:00am tomorrow to drive all the way across the state to watch my brother play in his high school district tournament. Its at the same place my districts were at so it will be interesting for me, and a neat little flashback to '07. But 5:00...followed by 4 hours of interstate...ugh.

nice. thanks.

when we see on the screen that a player is -11. does that mean through the course of the entire tourney that the player usually shot 1 or 2 under par? Thats how you get in the - right?

When you see a player's score relative to par it is usually his cumulative total for the tournament.

At the Players, at the very end you would have seen -11 next to Paul Goydos' name. That means he shot 11 strokes better than par, par being the "standard" score for the golf course (most commonly 72). Since it was the end of the tournament you can determine that he shot 277 (4 times 72 is 288, minus 11).

Since during the tournament players will have played slightly different numbers of holes (until the end of each round), keeping track of how they're doing relative to par is the standard way of tracking whoever is winning.

Anybody have a recommendation of a website to buy golf balls?

Looking for new Pro V-1x's, I know people have said you can get good deals by ordering online, would appreciate any recommendations for reliable websites.

how do you deal guys with stretched muscle?

I stretched (only left) latissimus dorsi or serratus posterior inferior.
During normal activity it doesn't hurt but anytime I go to DR after few swings it really hurts (mostly during downswing)

I don't know if you can find NEW pro v1s at much of a discount. You can maybe find some deals on the older ones.

TGW has taylormade penta's buy 2 at $40, get 1 free. That's a pretty good deal.

...and I'm back from watching their team shoot 361 (thats right- a 90 average) and finish 2nd as a team and qualify for state. Making me angry once again that my hs team couldnt qualify 3 or 4 yrs ago by having one of our worst tournaments of the year and shooting a 320-something. But meh. I've got a mean sunburn - it was cold and sunny so I wore a jacket so my hands are fried, but not the rest of my arms. it is very strange to look at haha

Best route, imo, is to find either a HS/College Golf Coach or a Club Pro. Give them a $2/dozen deal or something and they can buy it at their 'rep' rate which is around $34ish a dozen brand new.

I've been doing this for close to 7 years now through my friend who is a HS golf coach.

There is a 9-hole "walk only" course nearby that I want to try. It is cheap and it's "play all day" fee. Looking at it on Google Earth it looks like fun since it appears they've set it up to have to hit irons off the tee on a couple par 4s. Minimal water, minimal sand. Looks like a good course to just try focusing on ball-striking for a noob. My question is, when they say walk only does that mean they give you one of those bag rolling dolly-type things or do you actually lug your bag around on your back like a pro caddy?

Never actually been to a "walk-only" course. I would assume you could do either.

I think that by walk only they probably just mean no power carts.

They are likely to have pull carts (those rolling dolly type things) available for rent, probably for a couple bucks a round. You most likely are also welcome to use your own if you have one. Otherwise yeah, you go old school and carry your bag.

When in doubt, call and ask.

I'd bet you can rent pull carts for a few bucks. Def call ahead.

I'd call ahead. Erin Hills: no pull carts permitted.

Im pretty much 100% sure this has been asked before....

...looking for a reasonable priced light golf bag for walking

Found a King Par Carry Lite bag on Ebay for like $35 which is more than reasonable enough for me but wondering if anyone has any other reccomendations... I tend to cart a lot when I play with others but I want to start walking 9 once a week or so alone since I am also working on losing weight and also because it will help my overall stamina for the game

edited to add: also found a 2010 TM one for 69.99 + 18 shipping?

I ended up playing 9 holes at that walkable course tonight. $8 twilight rate $2 pull cart. Course was actually in really good condition too. It's at a local community college but I thought it was great, esp. for the price.

Haven't walked in probably 15 years. I kind of enjoyed it, it gave me a chance to relax between shots (instead of hopping in the cart and zipping up to next shot) and it gave me time to think about my next club/shot. I enjoyed it, though keeping score was a PITA since I just stuffed my card in my pocket and kept having to dig it out. And walking down the center of the fairway to your next shot kind of feels like you're a pro lol. It is an easy course 33.6/111 but I played my best 9 holes ever, which I'll post in the other thread. Weird, since I was sort of hurrying trying to finish 9 before sundown. Played from 6:30-8p.

Just ordered a new driver yesterday. Ping I15 8* with the Avix Core Red X shaft. Pretty excited to get it out on the course.

Hoping to get a new set or irons in the next month or so as I have been playing Titleist DCI 762s the last 9 years so probably past due for a new set soon. Any one have recommendations for a good set? I have been looking at the Ping S56s.

wat? How does 361 qualify a team for state? That seems pretty sick.

Yeah, our school moved down to an even smaller class this year and apparently every team in the district is just awful. Like, one team has 2 good golfers who both shot 70-somethings, but they only have 2 other kids on their team and both shot over 110. The winning score was 344, which would have been good for like 7th-8th in the district I played in. My brother avgs probly 82-83 and played awful, topping a couple drives and 3-putting 4 times and shooting 91 which was still good for individual 12th lol.

I have the Mizuno MP-62s and absolutely love them. I've been playing Mizuno irons for 4 years and this is my second set of theirs. Mizuno irons are good stuff.

no offense but that's pretty terrible. we had some great players in our state (future us junior champ, etc etc) so the level of play was pretty high but I can't imagine myself getting into a competitive mode in such a lax atmosphere

I wish there were more courses like that. I understand why there aren't, but still, if there were there would be more people playing the game.
