I havent swung a club in over a week but since this is my new favorite forum, and it is a low content thread, I'm going off topic to tell you golf forumites about myself.

Today is day 5 of an 8 day farm gig in the country. There are 5 goats, two of which were born this spring. One stud. The mom, and an older 2 year old. The stud has been stomping his hooves at my approach and he bit my hand once. I'm fine ty. The mom is getting accustomed to the new arrangements nicely and if she is happy then the kids are happy.

Theres a bunch of chickens. They dgaf as long as they get fed.

There's a righteous herb garden that requires minimal work from me.

One cat. He seems happy so far. He stayed out all night last night. All good now.

The challenge has been making friends with this 1.5 year old dog. She doesnt like men. Shes very sweet, but very untrusting, jumpy , skiddish, whatever you want to call it. The first time I met her it was a bark and growl festival. I thought Damn I gotta make friends with this dog or I'm out of a job. Its over an hour from home but I started making monthly trips here in the effort to make friends with the dog to preserve my position. That was the beginning of winter.

It turned out to be worth the effort. We're pretty tight now. I'm petting her as I type. I wasn't able to pet her last Friday. Then day by day she has opened up to me. Considering her adolescent age, I think she has done a lot of growing up just in the past 5 days. She May have had to reinvent her identity. Before she thought she was a kid. With her family gone, she has adapted. This is a proud moment for me. Indeed this has been my toughest case to date.

But yeah no golf till next week wtfff!!!

What is the market like these days for used clubs? If I buy a new driver, I have an option to trade mine in and they said it would be between $120-$160 depending on the condition. I always use the head cover unless I'm on the golf course. I would say it is in fair condition, I suppose but as far as how much they would give me I would assume the worst case. It isn't worth the hassle to try and squeeze an extra $25, but if I could double my money that's a different story. What can I expect to get and how long might it take to sell? Here's the specs.

Dailey was then jumped on from behind by Smith, who began throwing punches at the 31-year-old. When Fribbs attempted to intervene, Smith’s father decided he would not and kept him at bay by waving his putter at Fribbs (a detail also confirmed by a PGA section official on-site).
I met Fribbs one time, he seemed like a cool guy. I didn't realize he was still playing.

Classic ****. I can't say I have ever been close to that happening other than the guy wanting to rubble when I hit the green on my drive on a blind hole (see other forum for that one, wasn't too long ago).

Only other not even remote one was when I was playing tourney at Mission Hills. Dude hit one in the water on 6 or 7 (the one with the peninsula fairway). It was the water that fronts the green it it was marked yellow. His ball never made it past the line and he thought he was entitled to drop in front of the green. Sorry bud.

I've had a few "experiences" on the course......

Was playing a stupid city course in Buffalo (really should just be a park, people walking everywhere). My buddy teed off on 4 and hit a car driving near 4 fairway. Like I said, just a stupid setup. The guy was clearly pissed and floored it so he could loop around and I guess kick our asses. Well we took off back to the car and got there just as the dude arrived to do some whoopin'. He didn't see us and we got away, lol. Green fee was probably like $6 so whatever.

League play (another Buffalo city course, but this one is decent). Our league GM decided to spice things up and added a twist. On every hole that has a green side bunker we were instructed to finish the hole as we normally would and then go drop in the bunker and play the hole out again as some kind of side action. Of course my immediate thought was that this is the dumbest idea ever and the people behind us are gonna be PISSED. Our group did as told on the first hole and then said yeah, no more of that. The people behind our league were furious. Someone shouted something about having a gun in his bag. Nothing serious ended up happening but my god, I can't believe our GM thought that'd go over well.

When I was a kid my Dad and I arrived at the (cow pasture-like) muni course in Florida we played, to see several police cars near the clubhouse. We asked the pro what was going on and he said there was a group of younger guys yelling at a group of old guys saying they were playing too slow, and one of the old guys pulled a gun out of his bag and threatened to use it.

On the same course, I was playing with a guy who teed off and hit into the group in front of us. I was like 12 so I can't remember if he did it on purpose for some reason or if he was just an idiot. There was a small water hazard right in front of the tee box. One the guys ahead pulls out an iron and hits the ball back at him and puts it in the water in front of our tee box. It was a pretty impressive shot. The guy who hit into them was pissed and ran out and they got in each others faces and exchanged some words, but didn't actually rumble.

Lol, I probably would have felt like a massive tool following that recommendation, but would have done it anyway, maybe just the first hole, well obviously just the first hole in this instance, lol.

Not too long ago I hit into a group on a blind tee shot, and apparently the ball hit their cart. I didn't find out how pissed they were until my partner told me they chewed him out after we putted out, but he was laughing, so I guess he didn't take it too badly. The thing is I felt like the group deserved it (but it was an accident of course) because they were a foursome with what seemed like only one good player who were taking multiple tee shots apiece all day. There was a slow group in front of them, but they effectively never put any pressure or incentive on them to go faster because they rarely caught up with them.

And they were young, and consequently reminded me of a more recent occasion where a young group of players swarmed a practice chipping green I was hitting on before they teed off. They were so oblivious to me and another guy using the green that one of them starting collecting like ten balls of mine around one of the holes because apparently he thought they belonged to him and his buddies, which is funny considering their balls were clearly all over the place rather than next to the hole. My psychological assessment of them was that this was a case of subliminal post-pubescent dick swinging in that me and the other guy both must have seemed passive and inconspicuous and therefore something of a background prop. Perhaps also believing in favorable odds that they might just happen to be superior golfers to match the somewhat affected zeal they had for their impending round of golf. To be fair the guy apologized when he was notified of his mistake by his buddy and realized the absurdity of rounding up all my golf balls, but later when I offered him what I thought was one of their balls they failed to collect by asking "is this your ball?," I seriously think he thought I was being sarcastic by the way he replied, which got to me a little having actually went out of my way to smooth it all over.

Was playing last week with a buddy and two randoms. Course was pretty packed on the front but opened up a good bit on the back. We were waiting on the group in front of us from 11-14 while the gap in front of them opened from 1/2 a hole to 2 full holes.

On 15 we were waiting on the tee box for 2-3 minutes. 2 of the group is already within 20 yards of the green, one is off in the woods about 180 out, one is in the fairway 150 out. Guy in the fairway hits his ball, shanks it, goes to his bag to drop another one and I yell out "COME ON MAN". He hurries and hits the second one and gets a move on. As we're walking up 15 and they're walking up 16 one of the randoms we were with starts staring them down. The dude who was in the woods yells "The **** you lookin at"? I ignored it because I'm a 32 year old man who's about to be a father and I don't need to be getting in a brawl on a golf course.

All these stories are awesome, keep 'em coming!

On a side tangent I just hate how the head pro gets treated at our course. I have been a member this time around for about 6 years. I have seen 4 pros in that time. First one was a lady that moved on to a different job within Club Corp. She was probably the best liked one of the bunch.

Second one was fired after an "inventory shortage" in the pro shop. Dunno if he actually stole anything but he had 2 strikes against him. #1 he had an affair with the lady working on the gym. He actually divorced his wife and married her. #2 and the most funny of all, during a member/member the tee gift was a Travis Matthew shopping spree. Keep in mind the average age of the golfer at my course is retired.

#3 He lasted about six months before he was switched with another Club Corp course in the area. Nor sure what caused that one to go down.

Our current pro I really feel sorry for. There are two main old guy groups in my club. One is known for sandbagging and the other ALWAYS has to have the first 3-4 tee times 6 days a week. If they don't get their way they make the pro's job a living hell. He is a one man complaint department apparently.

Fast forward to Saturday and a guy in my group was not happy with the pace of play. He calls the pro shop to complain, asks for the pro. His response wasn't good enough so he calls and leave the GM a voicemail. Apparently that was forwarded to head pro who had to go drive out and check out pace of play. We ended up playing in 4:05 which is not fast enough for him. Granted our pace of play when both courses are open is 3:30 max, but with one course open it's gonna happen.

Next issue we have is keeping employees in the pro shop and I know exactly why. They pay ****. Starting now I believe is $10/hr. Our old assistant pro was making exactly that after about 5 years before he left. He had to live off of that and lessons that he gave.

One other good one from the weekend was the sandbagging group has the first 4-5 times on Sunday. Well it's Father's Day and they have sons with them. I believe they had 4 more groups than they had tee times. They just go off like they own the place and pushes the whole tee sheet back. There is one 20 something kid working the pro shop with no starter and no ranger working that day. What his he going to do? Nothing. We were supposed to tee off at 8:32 and we teed off just after 9. Not a huge deal but just no respect. I just love being the one to have to tell the group behind us "not our fault" and explain what happened so they are not pissed off at us.

I've seen a few fights in/at the clubhouse but never on the course. A couple of near-misses for me though:

Member-guest and the two leading teams are playing the 18th together on Sunday. Match is tight. One player on one team is out of the hole and his partner hits it into deep rough down a steep slope to the left of the green. They search for a while and the opponents start calling time and asking to declare it lost. All of a sudden the player says he has found his ball and hits a nice pitch onto the green. They walk up to the green, and one of the opponents asks the guy what happened to the extra ball he has been carrying in his pocket all day. Then it was on right there on the green. I didn't even see it, but I heard it was quite entertaining.

The other time was all on me. I was in a cart heading down #2 fairway which is parallel to the par 5 #1. I see a flash and I am down on my knees in the cart and my face hurts like hell. I caught the second shot of a guy playing #1 just below my right eye. I found my sunglasses in the back of the cart. Sonuvabitch came looking for his ball and didn't even apologize. I thought (still do) that his group should have been able to see the roofs of our carts and hollered "fore." I was ready to kill. I was on the fourth tee before I had calmed down enough that I didn't want to go back and attempt to kick his ass.

Wow, you have to be so unlucky to actually get hit in the face with a ball. I would have been so rattled emotionally by the actuality of being hit in the face that I don't even think I would have had room to be angry at anyone, as though I had a brush with death or something. Also, it's hard to believe the guy had any idea he actually hit you with his ball, but obviously he should have yelled fore if he had any idea you were in its flight path.

Tom that guy must not have known he hit you, right?

Last year I was like 10 feet away from my buddy as he was hitting an iron shot. As he swung a ball flew right between us. I just caught a glimpse of it so don't know how close it was to either of us but that ball was humming. The guy that hit the ball couldn't see that he nearly hit us (he never yelled fore) but he must have known his ball went way right towards another fairway. we did drive by him and tell him what happened and that he may wanna yell next time. he acknowledged our request but wasn't exactly contrite. whatever.

i've been hit once by someone else's drive that landed in the rough before hitting my leg. the rough took all of the energy off the ball and i barely felt it.
