I must be weird, I rarely feel the need or urge to eat during a round. Used to have a candy bar or a hot dog at the turn as a kid but don’t bother now and I don’t miss it.

A Bloody Mary when things are going sideways tho, I do that every once in a while.

Florida resident rates at Streamsong already. $89 to walk the Black, playing it Friday. Blue and Red are closed as the re-sod the greens with some new bermuda strain.

I only used to grab a hot dog at the turn. However, since getting my wife into the game things have changed. She'll make a sandwich for each of us, toss in some fruit, power bars or other snacks and we bring a small cooler. I don't know that it helped my game, but it is nice not to be lethargic from being hungry.

I'll let you know. We are playing there this weekend after reading this article. It's a very long drive for us, but we don't.(yet) have push carts and I'm not lugging my bag around for 18 holes. On top of that, we haven't been out during the quarantine, so a long drive doesn't seem so bad

I often find that when I scarf down a hot dog at the turn it can upset my game for a few holes. Dunno if that has to do with digesting it or whatever but if the timing for my round is not over a usual mealtime then I'll often forego eating.

Looking forward to a TR, never played that course.

I do it sometimes, but hot dogs and sandwiches can give you a carb crash. I like almonds for steady energy and some carrots mixed in. Then maybe dried fruit or a banana for a boost late in the round so if a carb crash happens I'll be done playing by then.

So earlier this week our province announced plans for reopening and courses are now open as of today. It's been great weather here the last couple weeks so I'm sure courses are in very good shape for this time of year here. Going to be hard to get times though, it will be very busy.

It was a nice course. Definitely hilly. There's no way I could have survived walking it, maybe not even without a bag! They sprayed the cart down big time and scrubbed it like crazy. Every inch.

There were several holes where you really had to think about where you were hitting the ball or what club you should use off the tee. A tree that was right where I would aim. Do I fade it into the fairway off the tee and try to bend it around it? Try to go over it? I could go to the right, but the fairway falls off to the right so that would be a challenge. Should I lay up? So a few challenging holes like that where you had decisions off the tee.

There wasn't much danger around the greens that I could recall. I think the only protection the greens had was that they weren't very big for the most part. They were a little dry. There weren't many bunkers around the green. Some wetlands that needed to be carried or that were off to the side. The course was in pretty good shape considering everything. A little dry, but still ok. It felt very strange to be out there though.

I remember standing in the fairway and looking back over the course and thinking that they used a lot of land when building it. The holes weren't right next to each other and a few had a decent drive to get to.

If it was closer, I'd play it regularly. I think it was $55 with a cart. Reasonably priced.

They opened courses in NJ last week. Went the other day, was great to be back out. They are limiting tee times to every 16 mins and limiting to 2-somes only. The plus side to that is the course is practically empty... zero waiting on any tee box, with no one right behind you either. Feels like you have the course to yourself.

Down side is that there are fewer tee times available so tougher to get a time, especially with all the pent up demand and weather getting nicer. Also no bathrooms, driving range, ball washers, rakes, etc. Cups are raised so you just hit the side to make a putt.

Bought my Monmouth County card this year. This weekend was shut out of all 3 tee times on right at 8pm to book when 2-day out tee times opened up.

I'm very much a beginner (goal is to break 100 on a decent course this summer, so very very beginner) and the second part of your statement has been kind of blessing. Played Howell last weekend and it was so nice not having someone behind me and up our ass. Felt like we had the whole course to ourself. It really allowed me to relax and I played much better than usual because I wasn't so in my head and holding people up and playing too fast. But yea thank goodness courses are open and I'm sure we aren't far away from foursomes opening up again.

Rock on LFC. I'm about 20 years removed from my Morris County card. The counties keep the courses in such good shape for what I remember. But don't get too used to open courses. I remember having to just go at 6am having to walk on, since tee times always filled up early.

Had a lesson today with the old assistant pro. Luckily for me he only moved to a club 15 minutes away. Worked on long irons and bunker play. The long iron process is for sure gonna take some time and a significant amount of progress. The bunker play I was working on trying to get spin on the ball. Right now I just have the chunk and run play.

If your only shot is the chunk and run, you’re not using the bounce of your sand wedge correctly.

If one has enough clubhead speed, I can teach them to hit a proper sand shot in 5 minutes without fail. It’s all about understanding the physics of the shot. And then that can be applied to pitch shots as well.

I'm a decent bunker player.

Spoiler:
My main thought is to fire my hands through the shot.

Lets hear it. Or post in on Youtube. I mostly suck out of the stand. I have a "low bounce" 58 that I use out of the sand, maybe that's a problem? I also come at it from the inside, shoulders pointed right and hook it, which they say is terrible for sand shots. I obviously try not do do this out of the sand, but I admittedly have very okay and very terrible sand days.

The thing I came on here to talk about: Iron distances. You guys out there and on all these golf Vlogs I've been obsessed with since the quarantine are hitting your irons super far. 170 yard 7 irons and such. I don't really care about being "long" per se, but I definitely hit my 7-irons and less better than I hit my 5-irons and more, so I'd much rather be hitting shorter clubs from longer distances.

I'm a 4 handicap, I hit my driver far enough... 280ish calm/flat drivers, 225 calm/flat 5 woods.... by my 7-iron goes 150(maybe 153ish), my 6-iron 160(maybe 163ish), my 5-iron 170(maybe 173ish), etc.

The only thing I can really figure is that I am playing Titleist AP2 710 Irons from 2010. The 7-iron is a 35 degree loft according to the internet, when some newer model irons are sometimes as low as 27 degrees and often around 31 degrees or so. Is this a possible answer as to why I'm not hitting my irons as far as you nerds?

I'd think that you would also want to compare the length of your clubs, no idea if manufacturers play that game though. Lofts have definitely changed.

If it makes you feel any better you're about 2 clubs longer than me. I remember the days of an 8 iron being stock 150, now we're at 5 iron and it's getting worse.

280 driver should be like 170-175 7i shouldn’t it?

???????????????????????

Like I said the only thing I can figure is that my 7-iron is 35 degrees and apparently there are some on the market that are 27 degrees.

I really don't claim to be "long" or even care if I'm "as long as someone else", but I would like to be in the ballpark of my peers.

irons should just be re-branded to be like wedges. no "7"i or "6i", they're simply identified by degree of loft (i.e. 31* or 27*)

and POKEROMGLOL, yes the loft on those irons from 2010 is a club different from what's common now

Apparently the 7 iron in the Mavrik combo set is 27 degrees. If absolutely everything else were constant, a rough approximation of 2.5 yards per degree would mean that you'd hit that "7 iron" 20 yards further than your 7 iron.

A couple other clubs I randomly googled came in a 30.5 degrees. So if absolutely everything else were constant, you're getting shorted more than 10 yards.

Seems like a great reason to go drop $2,500 on a new set.

I either read or watched something the other day about iron distances. You can easily have people with the same driver distance be 2 clubs different in the irons. It's all about how hard you go after your irons.

Come to think of it it might have been a post on WRX. Someone was comparing swing speeds. Both had 110 with the driver and their 7 iron speeds were 6 mph different.

But the tech you see, it makes that 5i that they stamped a 7 on fly and land like a 7i of yore.

Yeah that’s why I’m so interested in this topic...I struggle a bit with my anything longer than a 7-iron and am really quite good with 7-pw.

If I were to get 20 extra yards with a juiced 7 iron and hit it like my 7 iron now as opposed to my 5 iron, that’d be a game changer. And this has at least made me feel good, knowing that I’m (probably) not really inadequately short, but just using “old” equipment.

My case is more extreme than yours. My clubs were 20 years old...maybe more. I lost track of how long I had them, but they were Titleist DCI, the first year they came out w/ DCI. I got them and have used them up until 2 years ago when I was finally fit for new irons.

When I hit them side by side 2 years ago after my P790s were delivered, there was literally a 2 club difference between the P790 and the DCI. On top of that I was so much more accurate w/ the new P790s.

Go get a fitting, but it's like going to the dog pound to "look at dogs." Don't go unless you plan on spending the money, because you will probably be hooked right away on the new clubs!

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Crazy! Unfortunately my fitting would likely be extremely boring. Either the Titleist guy was a fraud, or I'm just an extremely average person, because I was stock everything.

The p790 7 iron is 5 degrees less loft than the AP2 I'm hitting, which is probably a club and a half. That's insane! Not even accounting for other new technology. That means I'd be hitting it 165-170? hard to fathom.
