I can't imagine anyone put in more time than that.

New player getting into golf so forgive me for such a rookie question.

I want to make sure that I understand course rating correctly. If my handicap is 24 and the course rating is 70, does that mean to lower my handicap that I must shoot below 94? Even if the par for the course is 72?

Link for more detail: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slope_rating

But basically if you have a handicap of 24 on a 115 slope course you would get 24 shots, or shoot a 96. Slope and shots are not one for one.

Looking for a tip on a good app to track my handicap for me. Currently using one called Infotalk Golf, but it's pretty basic. Wondering if there is something better out there.

Are there GPS apps that will calculate and store how far you hit your shots? Maybe by entering a starting and ending point for each shot and it tells you how far the ball traveled?

Yes, something like GameGolf. You put little GPS tags on the top of your grips and it can sense when you hit a shot. Then you can see how far you hit it.

Yes. You can do it with some phone apps like Golfshot I believe. You can also buy arccos sensors which attach to each club.

You can also do this manually with the app without buying the tags that go on your clubs.

Or just have a laser rangefinder and then note where your ball landed relative to the flag.

But +1 on the Golfshot app, that thing is invaluable when playing a course for the first time.

I did not get a chance to try the app today. The guys that I was playing with had a difficult day I guess you can say. They all shot pretty poorly and we were awfully slow. I wasn't able to zoom in or anything and it just showed the layout of the hole and I think the distance from tee to green.

I shot 38 on the front which is the first time I have seen the thirties in many years and then after 3 beers loosened me up I followed it up with a 46 😅.

Trying to decide if I should sign up for the Mid-Senior Amateur this year. I was playing good last year and missed the cut by 5 shots. I'm not playing as good this year and injuries are killing me, which leads me to....

I either severely pulled or tore my left hamstring. I strained it a couple months ago after being dumb and deciding to go out for a run. It was just a slight strain that would occasionally be sore in the mornings. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and it started to hurt a lot more and now for the last week I can barely stand up out of a chair. Throbbing pain for a few seconds then it goes away.

Good news (at least so far) is that it doesn't hurt the golf swing at all. Bending down to pick the ball out of the hole is a whole other thing.

My wife has one. I might be using it this weekend if I can get over the embarrassment factor.

If you are playing senior events in FL no one will notice it amongst all the iron covers and ball retreivers

Signed-up for the Mid-Senior event again this year. My 80-77 last year was 5 shots below the cut line. I will be going in blind on the courses so who knows how it will go at the end of the month.

Also playing a tournament at my club this weekend. It's over/under 60. One member older and one younger than 60. Just playing for fun but winning a few skins would be nice. Playing it from the white tees so it's only 5,900 yards. Infinitely easier course from those tees.
