Actually anything from 8-iron down should suffice (though a wedge is better).

Couple of swings that I taped with phone+tripod from my last round, figured I should post 'em here for the lolz & possibly a few suggestions. Set speed to 0.25 if you want to see what's going on. Hoping to find my GoPro for next time I get out, may be a while with this hurricane though.

nice swing.. thx for posting

the very good: nice tempo and you are NOT "over the top" like 95%+ of recreationals....

other comments (although i don't think they matter, so you could disregard): your takeaway looks a bit funny. your set-up position doesn't look athletic.

Feet are too close together at setup. Widen the stance out a bit. Because of that all of your power is coming from above the waist. I'd work on that first.

Yeah, first thought especially with the GW video was your feet are too close together.

For people here who do not have a membership somewhere, how much are you paying per month to golf? Also how many rounds do you play a month?

Just kinda curious. I know there are reasons to get one and reasons not to do it.

I only play ~3-5 rounds a month, and maybe the range twice a month. Probably spend about $160 or so if I play 5 rounds & 2 times at the range. NE FL golf is nice and competitive that way, and I play in the afternoons.

Also, thanks for the advice/comments on my swing. Will definitely be a lot more attentive with my setup width, and see where that takes me. I definitely get lax/random in that department

Public course in Colorado mountains. Season is April 1 to October 31 - so 7 months. $280/month + $850 for a season cart fee (or $25/round for cart). Unlimited range for those with the "membership" option (aka paying year round). Rack rate $129 for daily fee golfers.

So ~$4,200 + tournaments and such.

I average playing 2 to 2.5 times per week. I've played 44 handicap rounds out there this year (will get 4-5 more in before the season ends this month). Then decent amount of range time and go out for a few holes after work etc.

edit: then I play a handful of other courses and tournaments not at the home course... and winter travel to get the fix in January etc.

Sort of a WITB question for you all : What club(s) in the bag is likely the next one(s) you will remove / try to find an upgrade for? For me, it's probably my 21* hybrid (SLDR), I like it but could use some more forgiveness and a better gap fit between my 5W & 5i. I don't take it out for many shots, so I'm sort of dragging my feet on changing it out.

My 52 (8 bounce vokey). I cringe every time I have to hit it. Will replace it with an easier to hit approach wedge that would belong with a more forgiving iron set. Love my 60 and 56 from all kinds of different lies but the 52 is only used for full shots from the fairway or the tee on a short par 3 and it's a nightmare.

i'm biting the bullet and going to strength my grip alot.

one problem is that i don't think it's completely clear what is strong/neutral/weak.. i think i'm neutral but i also think i may regrip to weak alot (especially on driver)..

my misses are either dead-pull or leave the club face wide open. which i think are consistent with an OTT move..... of course with weak grip, if i wasn't wasn't OTT i'd push/slice the ball like mad....

i fiddled with strong grip last time i played. i was pull hooking alot. but i thought a bunch things afterwards: 1) pull/hook not that far from what i'm trying to achieve; 2) i was still aiming for my potential big slice; 3) harder i swing, the better the shot; 4) i can develop proper swing in to out (and i think the change is pretty natural with strong grip) ... some other stuff but i forgot.

but basically, i can swing really hard and have good shots with a strong grip. it's more fun that way anyway. with neutral/weak, i had to hold back and/or really concentrate on swing path and release to hit good shot ..... i ripped off the "harder i swing, the better the shot" from brooks koepka....

Or you could just go get a lesson.

I think a very strong grip can be helpful as it requires less rotation of the face. I am by no means a good golfer but have been hitting the irons much better since I strengthened my grip. I find I can hook unless I remember to turn my trail arm upward so that the forearm is essentially facing the sky. This helps keep the face neutral at address, and I've always felt in a more comfortable position with my right forearm facing up rather than facing the target. Then I try to swing with almost no forearm rotation at all, just a shoulder turn back and through.

Sam Goulden talks about this in his Square to Square swing, it's on Youtube and worth watching. It's not a gimmick swing, just a strong grip, face square all the way through, shoulder-driven swing. Simple but it works.

Thoughts on playing in colder weather? High of 49 with 10mph wind. Too cold to play?

You wouldn't be much use as a winter league partner in northern England - sounds like a lovely day to me!

Defintely not too cold unless you're not going to enjoy yourself, no point in playing if you're just going to be miserable the whole round. Back when i was obsessed with golf I would play until there was snow on the ground and courses closed which meant rounds in the upper 20s, low 30s. now i don't play much anymore and hate playing in any bad weather.

49 and light wind is pretty nice to me if it's sunny and I'm walking.

Cloudy and breezy that's too cold.

Love the cooler weather

Not even close. Wear the right gear (layers), walk if you can.

That's 10 deg C! I'll be golfing in the same weather on Friday, probably last of my rounds this year (not counting November vacation).

played today in 3 degrees (celcius) and 50kmh winds (felt like -2). it snowed multiple times during the round. One of the guys was wearing shorts lol.

It was miserable even with a cart cover but the propane heater helped alot for our 2some. If it wasnt a big tournament I would not have even considered playing.

Too cold for me. If its in the 40's here I'm not playing. Too many other good days to choose from. I see that it's gong to be a high of 83 on Sunday and Monday. Now that's perfect weather. Much better than the 92 today.

I made my grip stronger years ago, but I still have to watch for the same problem. My left hand will stay where I want it to (grip wise), but my right hand slowly creeps back to where it was. So, when things start feeling odd and contact is poor, I will sometimes notice that my left hand V is pointing at my right shoulder and my right hand V is at my chin...or even left of that.

Anyway, just saying that if you mess around with it, watch for one hand getting out of sync and trying to get back where it was while the other hand has bought it to the change....lol

Admittedly this is all personal experience & maybe foggy memory for me, but I used to play with a fairly neutral / weak grip probably 3+ years ago, back when I played/practiced a good amount. I was a two way misser, and just generally inconsistent with direction/shape of shot.

Nowadays, I play with a slightly strong grip. I'm sure I'm doing many other things that contribute to this, but I rarely hit even minor fades unintentionally. With driver, this has held true for the last 4+ rounds on the course.
