Have tried that but my phone is too busto atm. Gonna have to get a new one soon but wouldn't mind having a separate camera. Looks like I should be able to get an okay one under $100?

are you talking about at the range or at home into a net?

If at home, one of the sim guys has a pretty sweet setup. 2 120fps cams (50 bucks each) and then some software and a script.

I use Live View Plus. It gives the instant replay you are looking for: https://www.liveviewgolf.com/shop/

End of another simulator season. Best year so far and shot my personal best IRL (78) this year as well...

Been having a real rough go of it with my driver my last few rounds. Tops and pushes far too much off the tee (prob 4-6 times a round). Trimming it down 1/2" to 45", and regripping it. Seems to be OK so far on the practice tee. May have to have a Driver v 3W off-the-tee battle on course sometime in the future.

so i was reading some instructional stuff on internet on hitting the driver...

as preface, i am the opposite of many very athletic people who barely play golf. i am good at almost everything but my driving is never that good. length nor direction.

i've been working on some stuff that helping. but then i came across this and was curious.

HERE GOES

one of the top instructors says you should have 45 degree lie angle with driver when you hit it.

driver lies are sort of 52-53ish. depends on company/driver/etc. but that's a reasonable number.

most non-elite golfers are 50 degrees or so at impact with driver. fairly close the natural lie angle.

corey pavin and fred funk are about 40 degrees..... very straight but short by tour standards.

so how do i incorporate that? stand further from ball? lower hands? toe up in air as you address ball?

lastly, how much does the shaft droop at contact?.. not actually sure how that factors in the original instructor's advice (because the droop i think would be curvature of shaft)

thx advance ... kinda disjointed but i thought others might find it interesting.

i feel your pain............... i would fiddle with stance width, ball position and tee height in your position.

as per 3W vs. driver, i think ultimately you need to fix your driver. although i don't hit 3 wood that well off a tee (and then for whatever reason, using no tee on teeing ground seems different than same on fairway or rough)

So you've hit a lot of bad drives in the last few rounds and think it's all about the length of the driver?

First off, as a poker player, you should understand short term variance. Second, your driver issue almost certainly does not revolve around the length of the club. Third, if it's OK on the practice tee, then it's a mental issue on the course.

None of the three Whistler ranges are any good. The mats and balls are fine but no good grass areas.

Maybe it's psychological and I'm doing something else different but I'm very significantly more accurate (and often longer) when I choke up about an inch on the driver. Very large sample size.

Then just do that. Trust me when I tell you that cutting off an inch will not have the same result as choking up an inch. It will have a very bad effect actually.

If you want to shorten your driver then you need to have a fitter do it because there is a lot of things that need to be done to make it play/feel the same when it is done.

Yeah I wouldn't literally cut off an inch but I will probably look at shorter shafts if I ever get properly fitted. I messed around with a 3 wood shaft in a driver and it was surprisingly decent

When I briefly had a 45.5 inch driver, I couldn't put the ball in play. I don't think I'll ever go back to 45 inches even after going to 44.5 inches this year. I feel way more comfortable with a shorter driver in my hands on the tee box, and make better swings as a result. It's also immensely easier to find the sweet spot.

There are probably a lot of other issues than just the length of the club, but a 45.5 inch driver is just so hard to hit for anyone...

It was definitely largely a mental issue, and in case it was misunderstood, was happening on course AND on the range. Probably could have been rectified with just a regripping. First round with it was solid though, definitely a lot of restored confidence.

what is the industry standard? i.e. if i just walk into golf town (canada) and randomly buy a driver... looks like it's anywhere from 45 to 46 inches. the sources i checked differed in that range

a couple of things,

i've said this before but with almost every club but driver, i can hit harder and harder with good results (whether i want to do that or not is another question... certainly you want to know your distances).... note: probably more true for stiff shafts and shorter clubs... but this does not work for driver. maybe because you are hitting down on everything else.

ties into point #2, most people, even minor league tour pros, tell me driver swing is same as most others. just set-up is different... but i really wonder how that can be, esp. if you hit up 5 degrees on your driver... if you make similar swing motion with driver as 7 iron, won't your club smack the ground? or do presets take care of that?

i find driver is different beast from all other clubs.

Wrapping up my GC Am Tour Nationals after a few days back at home.

75-76-85-82

6 birdies, 34 pars, 28 bogeys, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 quad

Overall a meh performance (T29/104). The first two days the courses were significantly easier (at least to me) and the scores showed it. I couple of holes got away from me but the only mental miss was the quad in dumping 2 shots in the water. I should have just played away from it and taken my double.

The tournament is run really well and they have stuff to do each night. Only thing that would have made it better is if I knew someone who was playing in it to have someone to hang out with at night.

Next year's nationals is at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Tough choice as they like to alternate west and east every other year. September in FL is obviously peak hurricane season. Add to the face that you have am and pm waves, you are going to run into rain at some point every day. The odds of getting in 4 rounds looks slim to me. Not sure if I am going to play in it or not.

I signed up for 3 majors next year so far (Innisbrook, Grand Cypress, and Pinehurst).

New season starts next month already. I highly recommend trying to play in some of these.
