Awesome score #Thinman. I stopped keeping track of stats on the course but I wonder when the last time I had 30 putts in a round.

------

I'd be interested to try a counterbalanced shaft but I'd imagine it would totally not be my thing if it's butt stiff. That would be the exact opposite of what I use (and need).

When I am down in Naples in November I think I'm going to give myself an early Christmas present and get a "long game" fitting of drivers, fairways and hybrids. Just want to see how close I really am to where I'm at now. Obv most interested in driver shafts.

I'll have to read more about it, sounds like quite something.

I've been really happy with the 110MSI and it's just weird. As posted above, I have no business hitting an X flex. None. But the results are solid. I really, really have to put a bad swing on it to miss left, which is my usual miss. I haven't had to resort to the manipulations I usually use to try and hit a fade - just a minor adjustment to the setup and it's close to point and shoot. Had what may well have been my best drive of the season on the last hole tonight, perfect trajectory that got me 275 into a 10-15 mph wind.

We'll see if an S flex produces similar results (or an R if I can find one).

On another note, I'm now giving thought to looking at irons. I haven't considered changing irons for more than a minute in the last 25 years. It's been the best part of my game for that entire time. The consistency isn't there this year, though.

The Titleist 818H1 hybrid has cemented a spot in the bag, it's been great.

Ernie Els likes to get drunk on his private plane and fight people

Quote:
“They’re standing kind of in the aisle or whatever and Ernie Els comes up to him and says something like, ‘Are you having a good time?’…and Els is like, ‘Now we fight!’ and straight-up headbutts him..hard…Ernie starts throwing him around all over the place, and the co-pilot comes back screaming.”
Quote:
“It was just myself and Stevie coming from Japan to Palm Beach,” Els said. “We had a lot to drink. There was a lot to talk about, and we kind of hugged each other. It was a lovefest on the airplane. Nobody got seriously injured. It was all in good fun. It’s just what guys do and there’s a lot of testosterone running.”

I still can't believe that story. So Ernie is a psycho drunk and just picks fights for no reason? What the ****?

It makes no sense because he seems like such a nice guy. This was Marino so maybe they were coked up? Or maybe he's the golf version of Wayne Brady in the Chappelle skit?

Today is one of the saddest days of the year.

It's the day you go to golfwrx and see multiple threads of people talking about how they got emails saying they got tickets to the Masters/Masters practice rounds ... and you check your email and it has nothing so you know that you got shut out again.

I don't have an email yet but did log on to my Masters account and it gave me the bad news.

Yeah, crappy day for sure.

I'll never buy another titleist fairway wood or driver. I've already had my 917F2 replaced 4 times (twice the rubber insert in the bottom popped out, twice the face cracked) and it just snapped off today at the screw. They make a good ball and wedges but man does the rest suck. Terrible design with those rubber inserts in the bottom.

I've really liked my 917F2. Maybe you're just hitting it too hard

My 915 D3 head just cracked last round, right in the little slot on the bottom just behind the face. Not under warranty, they said, ugh.

The trick is to break it sooner so they give you a 917, then 919, and so on. If you wait too long you're screwed.

Selling a few things now to fund new driver if anyone's interested, anything reasonable takes them (posted in equipment thread): https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/s...php?p=54029037

Is anyone doing golf specific training and exercise? If so, what?

I was looking at the Joey D website and that's an option. Price not really a concern unless it's crazy high.

No, but I probably do hex bar deadlifts and leg press more than I would if I didn't play golf. Also interested in hearing what people out there are doing and if there's anything specific they've noticed makes a difference.

Yoga for golf definitely. Olympic lifting helps too, explosiveness.

+1 on yoga. Olympic lifting hasn't worked out for me because I'm too injury prone. I can say from experience that when you dislocate your shoulder doing a snatch it will hurt your golf game for a while.

My golf game has improved immensely as I've added leg muscle in particular. Having a stable base is probably the best thing you can do for power. I have squatted heavy for about 4 years now 1-2x per week and I've never hit it longer.

I have also done a lot of olympic weightlifting this year, as someone else mentioned. I think clean + jerk (and overhead stuff in general) is awesome for power, and that it translates to golf.

In general, being stronger in your core/legs will help with golf. Having strong shoulders/back is good for injury prevention as well. Just don't waste time with isolated bodybuilding lifts like bicep curls, as those are literally useless/negative for golf.
