posted accidentally in bbv earlier...

What is the fairest way for a 13 and a 20 to matchup with a 20 and a 25 playing a 2 man scramble? We play with carryovers and presses.

I think the usga formula would have the 13/20 giving 2ish shots but the concern would be those shots coming on holes that are worth all the money.

Maybe laying a price on each bet would be better.

actually, distance over 200/ length from ctr line seems reasonable.

Damn, you guys want to punish the **** out of missing the stupid line. Length minus yards from line. After all, it's a LONG drive contest, you don't want a guy who dinks it down the middle to win.

Why not have two lines, instead of a centre line - longest shot inside the lines wins.

Love this idea. Or do a longest drive on one hole and a straightest drive on another.

Isn't that what a long drive that must be in the fairway already is?

Yeah, but if they want something more refined than just in the fairway they could use lines. Straightest usually ignores how far you hit it.

For our men's play days or one day member guest's my club always has 2 long drives and one straightest. The long drives are purely longest in the fairway. Never really thought about it, but they have one that slightly moves to the left around a lake and one that moves right around OB. They might do that to give both shot shapers a good look at it. Straightest they take a light rope and stretch it right down the middle then spray paint right over the rope and remove it. That way it doesn't act as support but you have a nice straight clear line from the tee box.

Depends on how wide the fairway is I suppose, but I'd imagine you'd typically want a longest drive competition, that should take accuracy into account as well, to be measured somewhat tighter.

If not, there isn't much point in having one line either.

Isn't the "longest drive" the drive that leaves your 2nd shot closest to the pin? No idea of the practicality, but aside from doing the Pythagorean Theorem, can't the girl just laser the flag from each ball, and whichever distance is shortest wins the long drive contest?

This takes both distance and accuracy into account.

No, but I'm playing Great River in CT and I am super excited. Wish the tee boxes were more scaled though.

Options are 7000, 6700, or 6100.

Guy I'm playing with is a teaching pro, so I doubt he wants to play 6100.

Well, you can do the Paula Creamer hypothetical you came up with earlier. He plays at 7k with his eyes closed, and you play from 6100.

Just kidding, good luck, have fun.

I pick my kids up from school today and we're driving home and my daughter says "Daddy, why does Mommy do all of the work?". I'm like what are you talking about, I help Mommy with things around the house. And she pauses and then replies "no... mostly you go golfing".

It crushed my soul a little but I'm not changing how much golf I play.

You might want to think about where she picked the bolded tidbit up. I'm pretty sure the kid is the least of your worries.

Officially giving up the game. Just too frustrating, hit my irons perfect for a month straight, now you would think I was some sort of human/insect hybrid the way I strike the ball. I give up. I just give up. Not going to watch or even the discuss the game anymore. Selling the clubs this week. See ya.

Not sure if serious.

How does anyone get into golf NOT expecting frustrations?
