The LPGA isn't hard-up for marketable players. The sport is already huge in Korea and has pretty competitive players from all over the world. There are also plenty of cute girls who do well enough to be marketable (Korda, Gal, Munoz, Creamer, Wie, etc.) And the Inbee Park story last year was huge. It's not like they need to thrust this ho into the spotlight - but are just doing so because ZOMG TIGUR.
but that's fantastic for the sport though - golf is, at best, experiencing static or even slightly declining growth in recent years. courses/country clubs/etc. are getting pretty hosed, and the lack of tiger woods inspiration is not doing anyone associated with the entire game any favors. building up new idols for younger audiences to aspire to and appreciate (particularly in the female department) is absolutely essential for the health of the game for all of us into the future. i don't see any reason to be cynical about that.
