thinking about the question you posed, i'd say Morgan Pressel is the American that comes to mind. a stellar Am career (including the '04 North & South and '05 U.S. Am), yet only two LPGA titles. her Solheim Cup record is great though: 11-8-3

how do they come up with the matches? Does 1 captain put forward a pairing then the other captain say's you play these 2?

i don't think so. i think it's like the RC where captain's blindly right down the 4 teams for a session (the 12 players for singles) in order on a sheet of paper and then that gets matched to the other team's sheet of paper.

what you describe is the process that takes place for the Presidents Cup.

Didn't get to watch as much as I had hoped, really just Sunday morning and a little of the afternoon, and a few holes here and there today. It's a really fun event and Inverness is a very solid course.

Working the event at Pelican this week. Was walking scorer this morning for Nicole Broch Estrup (formerly Larson), Stephanie Meadow, and Lindy Duncan. Here is a hole for Stephanie Meadow that will relate to our games.

Short-ish par 4 (around 360y).

1 - Tee shot pushed right into trees.
2 - Sitting on pine straw she decides to go for the green, hits it a couple grooves low, hit a limb hard. Luckily someone saw it as it goes to the next fairway over.
3 - Punch hook that catches the pine straw and make it about 1/3 of the way to the green.
4 - Another punch shot into the front greenside bunker.
5 - Splash out to the edge of the green.
6 - Putt
7 - Putt

Triple.

On the same hole Lindy Duncan hit a toed knuckler off of the tee that went about 130y and into the water, of course she did re-tee and saved bogey. 2 holes later she hit 3 wood to about 3 feet on a par 5 and made eagle.

Nicole Broch Estrup was t6 with 3 holes to go. Her approach to the short 16th missed the green by 30 yards and into the water. It was a pull that kept riding the wind.


Overall the tourney is horribly run, at least this year. They are way below the numbers they need to volunteer. Some groups did not have standard bearers, some of the standard bearer signs were missing names of usually one player (Estrup was missing from my group). Marshall numbers are way below what they need. I can see a ball getting lost this week because there wasn't anyone around to watch. This city really needs people to step up and volunteer.
