I haven't watched much of the Blue Bay but have the final round on this morning. I hope Ariya isn't injured, she hit some shots that are just not like her at all. Then again Sung Hyun Park didn't play well either so maybe it was just the conditions.

I am back volunteering again this week at the CME Group Tour Championship. I have the first time off on #1 Thursday. Based on my maths it looks like I have:

Bronte Law
Ryan O'Toole
Anna Nordqvist

Round 2 I have the second to last group off of #1 so that will be 4th-6th. Rounds 3 and 4 I have the tail end of the field off of #10.

This week the LPGA returns to the United States for the playing of the CME Group Tour Championship. Many of you may remember last year's exciting finish when Ariya Jutanugarn finished one stroke ahead of both Lexi Thompson and Jessica Korda. Lexi Thompson hung on to win the 1 million dollar bonus.

Here is my preview of this week's very important event:

Do they re-pair after round 1? Usually they don’t.

Yeah this one they do since it's a limited field. They all tee off within 2 hours of each other each day. No morning and afternoon waves in this one.

Some thoughts from my group today.

Angel Yin was all over the course. One of the volunteers picked up her ball because "he thought there was no way she could play from there." It was in the bushes but not marked as a hazard or OB. And she loves some Adam Scott. Her and her caddy were also talking about the DQ in the Q series. I also heard a lot about her distance but it didn't strike me as amazing or anything. Her downwind tee shot went 260y but she def didn't seem to get all of it.

I knew Nordqvist was a short hitter but she is REALLY short. On the two measured holes she hit it 216y into the wind and 240 downwind. Her 3-wood off the deck is where you can really see the lack of distance. She couldn't reach 1 or 2 of the par 4's that were into the wind.

I was really impressed with Wei-Ling Hse's game. For being 5'2" she was hitting it past Anna for the first half of the day. She has a much tigher draw compared to the other two.

Tomorrow it looks like I have Lexi Thompson, Carlota Ciganda and Lindy Duncan. Tee times are 10 minutes earlier tomorrow so I might be stuck with Christie Kerr (ugh), Yu Liu, and Pannarat Thanapolboonyaras.

Well my job as standard bearer obviously inspired Lexi to the lead

There is an amazingly high number of extra people inside the ropes when you are near the lead. We had someone who won an auction walking with us. Also had a sheriff walking with the group because of the high profile player (Lexi obv). Also had around 4 Golf Channel people along with various other photographers. With the two extra in the carts between long holes (the observer and sheriff) we had to squeeze a few times.

So good news is I now know Lexi, Lindy Duncan and myself can all fit in one row of a cart.

Lindy struggled mightily today to a 79, including carding an 8 on a par 5. Carlota Ciganda was up and down most of the round and ended -1 for the day.

Tomorrow I have the last three players in the tourney. They are only 19-20 shots off the lead.

Pernilla Lindberg
Ryann O'Toole
Mariah Stackhouse

Oh, and Lexi's brother Curtis is awesome. I guess he tried Monday qualifying in Sea Island on Monday. Didn't make it and was caddying by Tuesday.

The good news is Pernilla, Ryann & Stackhouse are all really nice people. Ryann will probably give you a signed ball.

The year 2018 was a very exciting year for the LPGA tour. There were a record number of first time winners. There were rookie winners. There were winners from several different countries. There were several tournaments that needed extra holes to determine the winner. There were 5 different major championship winners that came from 5 different countries. There were two pairs of sisters that each recorded victories. All in all it was one of the most interesting seasons ever. Let's take a peek:

Let me start off by saying that 2018 was not a very strong year for LPGA rookies when compared to other rookie seasons this past decade.

There were thirty rookies on the LPGA Tour in 2018, and only seven of those players managed to retain their 2019 LPGA playing privileges based on their 2018 tournament results.
