I'm too cheap to buy a rangefinder at least until I try something for my phone. What apps do you recommend? Free is preferred, but I'd pay for a good app especially if it was less than a rangefinder.

Also, is there anything that will calculate and store the distances I hit my clubs? Something like Trackman for courses or driving ranges that don't have Trackman?

I used to be a 7 handicap 20+ years ago and have recently started to get back into golf since my wife enjoys it. I'm probably a 20 or 25 handicap now that I've only played a handful of times and I have some work to do. I have an old set of Titleist DCI clubs and before I get a brand new set I'd like to have a baseline of where I am now.

i use the free version of hole19. i have found the yardages to be very accurate. the paid version will have the distance tracking you're looking for.

Thanks. If I'm at the range and somebody is two stalls over will it be able to differentiate between my ball and his? Or does it track my distance by me walking / driving to my ball from where I hit the shot?

it won't track like a trackman, sorry. that would be pretty sick for a cell phone app. like you said, it will chart your distance using your location on GPS.

I guess that would be too much to ask for a phone

how about just a stats tracking app? I see a ton in the app store, any a lot better than the others?

The grint seems pretty solid as to stats and gps.
