Here is the scenario

You are 45 and just ready to retire after a back injury ends a very respectable golf career. You have 15 wins overall, including 10 PGA tour wins. But, no Majors.

You are not from Europe or the USA. Let's say you are from Brazil, just to keep things as objective as possible.

Before you hurt your back, you win your final tournament.

Take your pick...

Win the Masters
Win the Open Championship at St Andrews
Win the US Open at Pebble Beach
Win the PGA Championship (pick any venue, Oak Hills, Bethpage, etc)

Click the poll and discuss away.

I can't see the poll on Tapatalk. I'm new to golf but isn't getting the ugly green jacket the ultimate goal? I mean Pebble and St. Andrew might arguably be nicer courses but the Masters is "A Tradition Like No Others". Watching this on TV seems so far and away better than any other tournament.

As an American Augusta is a no brained. If I was from Brazil it would probably be a coin flip between Augusta and the Open.

sorry, didn't see that uso would be at pebble and british at st andrews...... and they'd have to be there every year for that to have HUGE significance.

i'd still say masters........... i think it's the pagentry and the whole "green jacket"/butler cabin/jim nantz "a tradition like no other" propoganda that puts it way ahead of the others.

The Masters AINEC for me. I'm in the US, but I would bet that most across the pond would say The Open AINEC. I also bet there are a lot of American pros that would rather win The Open just because it is a huge feat to go to another country and take down their biggest tournament. I wonder what most pros would say.

I'm the lone vote for US Open at Pebble. I'm probably biased because of my recent play. Now if someone can get me on ANGC I would be more than happy to change my mind.

i mostly concur and thought about going for pebble. i love the place - went to 2010 USO and 2012 annual tourney for all 8 days - and both TW and Jack said they would play their last round of golf there if given a choice..

of course, bandon dunes people spent 2 days trying to convince people that their courses are better than PB and that - LOL - they are less uptight than bandon. my experience was that bandon was uber uptight FWIW. grilled my 75 year-old mother with questions at the security gate when she came to pick us after a round. you can't make this stuff up

Hi Folks

I get that the Masters for an American (and maybe many non-Americans) is a no brainer. But, what I thought might make this interesting (and nobody has mentioned this I think), is that the Masters is played every year at the same location, but the Open Championship is not.

So, you have a chance to win the Open Championship at the birthplace of golf only once every 5 years. So, even the best PGA pros in their prime really have only 2 or 3 (perhaps 4) shots of winning at St Andrews (and against a deeper field). Whereas the same golfers have 15+ chances at the Master's.

For me I'd take the Open at St Andrews as my first pick, but that is the only Major I could pick ahead of the Masters.

Actually, don't you think them not being there every year makes them more attractive to win....??

For me it would be The Masters with The Open at St. Andrews a very close second.

But...

For anybody outside North America The Open Championship is the end all be all of wins. And then to win at the home of golf is the icing on the cake. There's a reason it's been held since 1860, way longer than any other major. 1895, 1916, 1934 for the other three.

LOL if people actually read this before they voted the results would be vastly different...

The fact that you can go back to Augusta and be at the dinner, play the tournament, and everything else for the rest of your life is more than enough to put that over the top imo. You can go ahead and retire and play that one tournament a year for the next 20 years and then go enjoy the Champions Dinner and everything else surrounding the tournament until you die.

no... one of the reasons the masters is so prestigious if they play it there every year... if they decided to play it at a different gorgeous SEC-country golf course every year but augusta got it every 5 years it's popularity would plummet.

USO and BO would be beyond amazing if they were held at PB/ST.A every year BUT they want to give lots of courses a change.

just my opinion BTW

FWIW, i don't agree. maybe UK and ireland. perhaps australia and south africa but i don't think so... i think other than UK/ireland the masters is miles ahead.

tennis is also analogous. the players have basically said wimbledon is miles ahead of any other. even nadal - the king of clay/FO - has said this....

i think wimbledon/tennis and masters/golf is almost perfect parallel. or at least very good parallel

maybe it's due to all the masters 'propoganda' but like 7 of the 10 best moments in golf over the last 40 years or so have occurred at augusta

I'm Irish and would pick The Masters and so would nearly all my golf fan friends here (all under 30 though). That includes some of us who have attended The Open.

No disrespect to The Open though, I'd happily take an Open if good enough for either
