sequencing the downswing properly, is key to generating enough clubhead speed to compress the ball. i tend to believe the swing should start from the ground up. like a discus thrower in the olympics. he doesnt just swivel his upper body first or he loses all power.

i start my downswing with a "bump" to my left hip. kinda starting it out toward the the target and very quickly unwinding it hard to the left. then the shoulder and arms follow and release through impact.

If you lie on your back and turn your hips to the right, and do a crunch that works the left oblique, that's pretty much what I feel happening thru the downswing.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about a bit over the top until you stabilize your backswing / top position with some of the new stuff you are working on. You are going to end up less steep at the top and then its a new ballgame with downswing. Those nice abbreviated ones from the Graeme Mcdowell retweet look really good. Once the takeaway is ingrained in muscle memory I would encourage you to think about bringing the club low and back, it will feel shockingly low and your first instinct will be to pull the clubhead inside to accomplish it (fun, right?), so you have to then work on both at the same time, keep the club low but keep the clubhead outside.

When I am coming over the top it is 100% because I bring the club back too steep and lay it off, when I get it back properly its always push draw or block.

semi-grunching from last time I posted. People are making good comments, but overall the backswing is looking WAY better. Good job there. I would think that the next big thing would be incorporating an athletic move with the lower body (primarily your left hip/ butt) to start the downswing. At impact, your hips are square and your right foot is flat on the ground. Take a quick look at a TW swing on youtube to see how much crunch/ knee bend / hip turn he gets in the middle of the downswong.

Also I semi-disagree with GM about standing too close to the ball, unless what he means is put your toes two inches farther back and keep your body where it is.

I like your whip metaphor. (Or is it a simile, lol?) NO conscious acceleration from the arms.

I think it's on a better plane that helps the plane of the downswing... but to become optimal you have to hear what your boss is saying about the wrists... Change your action with the wrists. You should be pushing the club away from you never lifting. Pushing instead of lifting is how you get the right wrist action

Or just do the dagolfdoc drill. Grip the club with just your thumb your index finger and your ring finger or middle finger and start your backswing. If the club feel really heavy you're doing it wrong.

bump!

haven't updated in a while, but haven't quit. i noticed the same things over and over in the videos i was posting so i just haven't felt the need to update in a while until i started to solve some things.

been trying very hard to eliminate using my hands during the swing. my biggest leak is being too handsy, before if i had a big miss it was always a huge high slice caused by coming over the top when my hands and arms got moving before my lower body.

my miss is still usually a slice, but at least now it's lower and usually stays in play.

i've realized that becoming good at golf will be a very long journey, and a lot of it will have to do with fitness and flexibility. through experimentation and drills i have figured out that i literally can't get into the impact position i want to be in, even doing exactly what i want to do, because my hips and shoulders are simply way too tight. they are opening up little by little but i know flexibility will be an incremental process that i absolutely must work on every day if i want to be serious about this.

i'm playing my first tournament on june 10th. it's at royal links, a fairly tough course, but i'm looking forward to the competition environment. another big leak is losing focus during a round and then the hands go wild. easy to stay focused on the range when i'm alone.

I'm know expert so take this very lightly, I've only really learnt through myself aka trial and error. Also I haven't broke down your vid I've only just taken a quick look so I don't really know if the below will apply.

I think you gotta think why your coming over the top? I mean what causes this...of course it's probably just a bad habit by now and probably feels so hard get rid of it. I think the route course of it is mentally like any one your too worried about trying to make good contact with the ball meaning your trying to hit it out of the center. This I think sub consciously makes you want to control the club face on the downswing, So you end up starting the down swing from the top when you should be starting it from the bottom up.

Augie it looks a ton better on the takeaway! Now just try to get your hands low and back a bit more (that's the feeling anyway) and you'll shallow out a touch

Dd, what do you think of my position at the top? Seems square to me, even though my clubface is shut on the way back. I looked at a lot of pro swings and it seems like a good number of them are shut on the way back, so as long as i am square at the top, i am not going to worry about it.

You are right though, even though i think i am going back and through on the same plane, it is a little bit steep, i would like to be right on plane.

Today was awesome...i found a diablo octane at golf galaxy for $60 with the same specs as my current driver and i snatched it up! My old driver was very nice in its day but it is about 10 years old so i am probably going to gain about 30 yards without even doing anything!

Would like to see more face on than DTL, you can def fake it easier from DTL... getting all the angles right doesn't mean **** if your timing is whack and you're just throwing the clubhead at the ball

(like having an A+++ betting frequency but then having a huge tell where if you take 1 sec you're weak and 10 sec you're strong- looks good but not winning poker)

:54-56 is the most important, and notice that it's such a subtle nuance there's hardly words for it. Arcing it off is the difference between giving it a whack and sending it out there. Like the difference between gambling and playing poker.

3:33 is a drill you should try cuz you have a tendency to beat the range to death, but that won't make you consistent. Take it slow so you don't fake it. Muscle by muscle arc it off right.

hopefully this is the last crappy video i post, i just got a new camera on ebay, so my next one will be 1000 frames per second instead of the 20 or so i'm getting now!

i'm noticing a bit of back-and-forth swaying which i'm working on. been working hard on keeping my my right elbow down like duffner and not being so hands-y. still a battle but getting better. as i improve my fitness it should slowly fade away.

yoga has helped my swing so much, i highly recommend it to everyone, even if you don't play very much golf. it's improved my golf swing but it's improved my life too. tons and tons of beginner yoga videos on youtube.

got my first tourney of the summer this sunday. it's at royal links golf course which seems pretty tough from the video tour. i'm pretty excited even though i don't expect to do well.

i have a bet with jshuttlesworth (who's also playing the tourney) that i won't break 80 and he's giving me 12-1! i'm probably slightly -EV so if anyone else wants to give me some action, let me know! you will be able to verify my results online so wager with confidence!

What's your current handicap? Do you know if they will be playing from the tips at royal links?

i'm playing the net division as an 8 handicap. but, that's not my real handicap, i haven't established a "real" handicap yet because i don't have enough rounds. i have four rounds recorded, 85, 84, 83, 83, all at easier courses. the guy running the tourney gave me an 8 hc for lulz, since the tourney doesn't count for anything.

i bet the scratch division will be playing from the tips but i think it's highly unlikely that the net division will be playing from there. bet will be called off if the tees are anywhere except the tees one-forward from the tips. not looking to bet very much gamble gamble
