hey ya'll. would appreciate any and all comments. i want to take some lessons very soon but i figure there's a lot of improving i can do on my own first.

i feel that my stance is bad and i look like a little kid who's clubs are too heavy for him. for starters.

(start at :30 to avoid close-up view of my ass)

(start at :28 if you like)

thank you!

Yea your posture could use a little bit of work. Your back is just a bit rounded, but overall it's not too bad. A quick fix is to just feel at your address like you lift your butt up and back a little bit. Should help straighten your back out a bit.

Or another another easy thing to do is to take a club and hold it against your back. Use your right or left hand above and behind your head holding a club. Take your other hand and grab the club near your lower back. The club should rest against your back pretty flat, don't want your back too rounded or too arched. From there you should be standing straight up, take your stance with your feet about shoulder width. Now bend from the hips until you feel like your shoulders are over your toes and then add a touch of knee flex.

That would be the first thing I would work on, gotta get in a good set up before you can make a good golf swing. Can't build a house without a solid foundation. Other than that your action isn't all that bad.

posture... def a weakness for you. That loose back is creating flaws in the takeaway.

Your body has the softness of a bullwhip. You can create speed- but what you really want is to be built for speed and accuracy like a bow [and arrow].

I think you can learn more by getting a strength and conditioning coach before you get a golf coach. You obviously have some sense as to how to get the club on plane, what I think you're lacking is an understanding of how your muscles improve speed and create a repeatable movement. Try P90X or something if you can't afford 3-6 months in the gym.

My suggestion is to turn your looseness into strength and flexiblity and then begin applying those concepts to the golf swing.

edit: all coming from experience as a wuss with a lot of flexibility. I could hit some really great shots, but 4/5 times I would have no idea where the ball was going wander off to.

thanks. you're definitely spot on, i'm incredibly weak right now. bullwhip is generous; i would have went with pillow

word, i'll get on that, have it for ya later tonight. getting grip advice on youtube is pretty rough; one guy will tell you to hold it in your fingers another guy will tell you to hold it in your palm. all i really know for sure is strong left hand, weak right hand.

going back to the range before the sun goes down!

thanks you guys.

WOW, that posture tip helped a lot nxt, thank you.

i think this posture looks a little better, but it certainly felt A LOT better. i felt "loaded up" when standing over the ball, much easier to swing hard.

they closed the grass for no reason (f u mats!) so i can't be sure, but it felt like i was making much better contact than earlier. these 9 irons were flying 150 every time so i've automatically gained like 15 yards by improving my posture

Stick to poker

In seriousness though, most of what the others have said seems to be great advice and wonderful starting points.

Regarding posture -- here's a vid of my swing from last year. Luckily, my skinny-ass allows my posture to be pretty defined on camera, similar to the way NXT described it. My butt is up is kinda up in the air. Better posture will = more consistent contact and is healthier.

Your downswing actually surprised me. You take the club back a little low / flat but come down much steeper and in a good spot.

Work on the posture and post a new vid in a few weeks imo! For being a casual/beginning golfer, you have a very good swing. A great starting point.

Let's play this summer!

ya we're playing this summer for sure. hope you like getting up early, cuz there's no way in hell i'm teeing off after 7 AM in June in Vegas

i totally agree that it looks like i'm taking it back too flat. i have lots of work to do!!! i am not a beginner really, though. i played on the golf team all four years in high school. but after a pretty terrible senior year i just quit cold turkey up until two weeks ago. i turn 26 next month, so it's been almost 8 years since i picked up a club.

are we allowed to have blog type threads in this forum? i would love to update this thread on a regular basis with videos to get help from you guys.

the value i got out of posting those first two videos was probably worth $75 in golf lessons, haha.

Also, u gotta practice w/ alignment!

Think rotate and shift weight. Because the motion ur using to generate clubhead speed is heave-and-ho.

Use the muscle of the inner thigh on right leg to absorb the weight transfer during the backswing. U don't need to use a club to practice that feeling. Your weight should not get to the outside of the foot because that will cause you to lose balance and consistency.

thanks a lot, that helps so much. you seem to be very wise kyle. heave and ho is exactly how i feel when swinging, well spotted. i'll be back at the range tomorrow to practice as long as i'm not sore as hell. maybe even if i am

btw, why did you delete your other post? change your mind about the grip?

Also, I think NXT touched on it but you need to work on your takeaway. You really bring the club inside and around your body and UNDER plane. Several months ago NXT and Dagolfdoc helped me with this. Once I started the takeaway properly, it felt for me like I was keeping the clubhead WAY WAY outside of my hands. It's just something you will have to get used to, IT WILL FEEL WIERD.

This video should help:

Until I saw myself on video I had no idea how inside I was taking the club. It's one of those things where FEEL is very differently from reality.

Your backswing is going to be the cause of your most erratic shots. In the setup, the shoulders and spine create a T.

This T should rotate in place during the backswing, but the T should not sway or lean.

W/o using a club, set up. Get into a good posture. Focus on absorbing your weight transfer with the inner thigh and don't let that right leg move one bit. Your pelvis is going to want to move to the right, but don't let it:

Keep your tailbone where it starts. Keep your head and neck where they start.

Rotate in the backswing, don't heave your weight.

yea, i mean if you start changing grip w/o addressing other things, then it's all going to get confusing

learning to move by reading can be confusing to begin w/... u learn to dance by starting slow and getting the rhythm right not by reading about dance.

If u get the right hand more on top of the club u will find it easier to make the proper shoulder rotation tho... so if u can absorb all this then by all means get that right hand on top of the grip feeling stronger so you get rid of the tendency to whip the club around.

The Aussie guy in this video has a great grip on the club w/ his right hand... freeze at :50

And at 2:00 you can see him take the club away, and if you draw a line from his chin thru his spine u'll see it doesn't lean left or right. This prevents injury too. A lot of people tweak their back because they get their spine leaning toward then make some treacherous move and end up spraining a vertebrae

+1 to this, you look like you set up closed (to the right), its possible the camera angle is fooling us a little. Try to set the camera behind your hands at address, its more behind the ball in these. It will feel really weird to align more to the left at first but you get used to it.

You take it back way inside right away, and then have to compensate and basically pick the club straight up to a very steep top position. The link Brock posted should help, you have to keep the club head outside your hands more in the backswing, and then you will actually get to a flatter position at the top (less compensation). You sure do come down and get through the ball nicely though, I guess when you learn young you always can make good contact.

do you think this looks any better?

1. Use alignment
2. You stand sooo close to the ball... You look like a tall fella so perhaps your clubs aren't the length you need. You need to have room between your hands and your dick so you aren't whacking your balls during practice.. jkjk

Seems like you have a lot of natural ability tho cuz u overcome all that and get into a good position starting the downswing and have a nice finish
