registered for a tournament next weekend! looks like 30 entrants in the net division, sweet! first will probably be like $300 in gift cards, and once again i have a great chance of winning, my handicap has actually gone UP since my last tournament, even though i got 3rd.

tourney is at cascada golf course, and it's a sweet deal, $200 for a 36 hole tourney, with prizes! normal rate is $300 per round.

got a black r1 driver the other day and had it shortened to 44". wish i had tried a shorter driver a long time ago, holy cow, smash after smash. can't wait for the tourney this weekend. i had previously been using a diablo octane which i think is 46.5...i HIGHLY recommend everyone trying a shorter shaft if you're around average height like me.

meh. i actually knocked in a bunch of 8 footers today which is kind of sad. so many lost balls. the course is not that hard if you can hit the ball straight. the problem is if you miss the fairway by 20 yards, and by some miracle you find the ball, YOU'RE ON THE SIDE OF A ****ING MOUNTAIN. and if you miss the fairway by 10 yards, you're not on the side of a mountain, but you might as well be.

there is seriously not one inviting tee shot on the entire course, every hole you're just hitting into a valley and it's either a dog leg where you can't see the green or it's straight uphill or straight downhill. i hit a 360 yard drive and a 180 yard drive today.

good news is that since it was windy and cold, almost nobody played good, and i'm T6 and only 3 shots out of 2nd. unfortunately, 10 shots out of first.

2+2er shane "imawhale" sigsbee made 7 birdies today and shot 68, giving him a huge lead in the scratch division. holy moly!

started on 14 which is a tough hole with trouble everywhere. 3 wood off the tee, i aim left anticipating that i will block it like i do every opening tee shot. i hit a draw that ends up on the mountain. i tee it up again and this time aim for the right edge of the fairway. i crush it dead straight and it tails off at the end and splashes in the creek. my approach to the green lands against the back lip of a bunker on a downslope. i hit an ok shot that still rolled off the green and into the greenside pond. then i drop and chip it to a few inches. good times. birdied the next hole obviously. don't remember how i made the 9 on five.

eagled 3 which was sweet, my first ever one-putt eagle. easy hole though (relatively).

putting was really good both rounds. made the 20 footer for eagle, only missed one short one, and made tons of 4-8 footers. only problem is they were often for double bogey.

cascada would be much more fun to play if all of the desert areas were just treated as hazards. if you drive it bad, you have to scale the side of a steep rocky thorny hill every 3rd hole. it's seriously steep, could easily break an ankle. i didn't get to enjoy the awesome scenery because it felt more like a hike from hell than a walk in the park. awesome course though.

snapped a picture on the 3rd tee box. picture does no justice at all but oh well. for scale, you can see a dude standing on the mountain in between two trees in line to the green. he's about 350 yards away and within driving distance.

did u know u were starting on 14th ahead of time? i always play the first few holes on the range before hand so i feel more comfortable at the start of the round and to get a feel for my swing for the day.

I'M BACK BITCHES!

I can't believe I started this thread almost 6 years ago. I also can't believe it was 4 years since I've swung a golf club. Time absolutely evaporates. It's so sad.

When we last left off in this thread, I was riding high on my improvements and was insanely motivated to keep practicing and hit the ground running that next spring. I was sure that I was going to start breaking par the next year.

At this time, I had just started working full time as a manager at Jimmy John's. I would start work at 2PM which left lots of time to practice.

I had an abundance of motivation but I seriously underestimated my physical resources.

I'd wake up around 6:30. Drink a pot of coffee and eat two hard boiled eggs, some cheese, and some nuts. Get to the range before 8. Hit balls until about 10, slowly, filming each and every swing. Then I'd drive down the highway to another course with better practice greens and I'd work on short game for another 2 hours. Home at noon, eat something, and get to work by 2PM. Typically home around 11PM.

I did this daily for somewhere between 2 weeks and a month. It's hard to remember. After a couple of weeks, I started to seriously fatigue. But that did not stop me. Didn't matter how tired I was in the morning. After that pot of coffee I had the energy to swing my wedge for a while.

One morning I got to the range late, took about four swings, and realized I was wasting my time. I had no energy left. Wanted to practice but knew I couldn't. I waddled back to the parking lot and puked my guts out right in front of the entrance to the club house. Got home, took a shower, and vomited again. Still went to work like a champion and was immediately sent home by my boss while remarking "the only part of your body that isn't bright red is your face."

I went home, crawled in bed, and wandered around in the neighborhood of death. I stayed in bed for 24 hours. Didn't have the energy to roll over to take a drink of water and barely had the energy to call out to my wife for her to bring a cup and straw to my face. I definitely should have gone to the hospital.

After I recovered, I realized what had happened. I wasn't a golf robot. I wasn't going to be able to practice as much as I wanted to. And because I was also very stupid, I decided it was a better idea to quit completely than to practice and play once in a while and just accept that I wouldn't be breaking 70.

In the 4 years since I left this thread I've grown in many ways. I'm about 50 lbs. lighter. I'm a more complete person. I've experienced a few things. When I started this thread I was a very sheltered, narrow, and low-quality person and my opinion of myself was way too high.

I recently moved from Vegas to central Illinois. This may seem like a horrible downgrade for a golfer but central IL is actually a golf haven. The value you get here is probably unparalleled. There are several courses that you can play for $40-$50 prime time that would cost $500 in Vegas. For $20 or less you're playing a course that would be $60-$100 in Vegas.

I recently started a new job and a few fellas from work invited me to go out and play. I put up a 90 the first day and an 83 the second day with no cheating! After 4 years off! I couldn't believe it. I've been infected by the golf virus again!

I'm going to drill all winter long and then scortch the earth this spring! I can't wait!
