Adding mine in, I've held quite steady around 10 for the first 10-15 rounds of the year so lets see where it goes.

I just bought the GHIN app to get a proper handicap so I can compete with players much better than me when we go out. I shoot between 105-110 typically so obv not very good.

My question is how do you score yourself for the purposes of calculating a handicap? When I play and blow up I've been capping my scores at double par? I played with a buddy the other day and he told me you have to cap it at triple bogey or else your handicap could be literally impossible to beat by someone with a low handicap? Then I played with my uncle who is good, and told me I have to finish every hole and use my actual score (even if greater than double par) for handicap generating purposes. Anyone have a definitive answer for this?

Max allowed score now is net double bogey. So say you get 18 shots, the most you can take on any hole would be a triple bogey (or net double bogey). So if you take a 10 on par 5, sorry, that goes down as an 8 for GHIN purposes.

I realize I have this going in two separate threads now so I apologize. But since my handicap is only based on 8 rounds should I start limiting it to net double bogey or keep putting in my actual scores to get a bigger sample size?

Idk how handicap works. Here’s my last 7 rounds:

(Par 68 rating 66/119, 5500 yards) avg + 22 per 18 over 3 rounds.

(Par 71 rating 69.3/120, 6200 yards) + 26 over 1 round.

(Par 70 rating 68.8/119, 6000 yards) Avg + 26 over 3 rounds.

(Par 72 rating 68.4/113, 5500 yards) + 23 over 1 round.

I’m pretty happy with that, especially considering the physical change I’ve gone through over the summer. I played 9 this morning and I’m ready for another 18.

Played terribly this year after getting down to 15.3 - went up to 17.2.

Never really got into playing at all - lost a friend and covid stuff just made me not really interested in golf that much.

We have just gone to WHS, and my bad play has shown up my h/c a lot - it wouldn't have been able to rise so high under CONGU in England. I won't be playing again before November 2nd, so that will be my handicap index. 21 playing h/c at my club. Time to practice!

Not quite as bad as I thought - the initial calculations hadn't taken Competition Scratch Score into account (just used Standard Scratch Score), and several of my scores were in competitions played under difficult conditions.
