Confused?
I think he was confused that 18 times 4 equals 64. New math?

That's how we get those + handicaps!

Just wanted to say wow, there are some sticks on this site. If I have more time (too busy spamming ATF LDO) I would correlate this thread with the age thread to see when the best golfers started playing to confirm that indeed, the best players started in their pre-teens.

Also, thanks to dcasper for compiling/updating the list.

I honestly have no idea what the average 40 handicapper would shoot. I just hope that I'm not stuck behind them, ever.
We had a 38 in our club and he played quite often.
I remember scores ranging from 98 to 135.

oT,

Thanks. So all eleven of the sub-10 handicappers started no later than 17, and seven of us are 33 or older (meaning we've been at it a long time). Of the dozen that have a >10 HDCP, although to be fair the few at the bottom only recently started playing.

A curious thing is the gap between Nick B. and WLVRYN. It's nearly three shots and supports a theory I have that there is a certain plateau in the 6-8 handicap range that is hard to break through. Sometimes it takes years or sometimes it never happens. In fact if you took Nick out there would be a >4 shot difference between me and WLVRYN. No other such gap exists throughout the results.

I endorse your "gap" theory 100%. I have been between a 6.5 and 8.5 index for about six years, pretty much since I began playing regularly (~70 rounds a year) again. My regular game of 9-10 guys is full of several guys in more or less the same boat -- always bouncing in the high single-digits, never lower. And when I think about it, I know lots of guys who carry a 0-2 or 7-10, but relatively few 3-6s.

So I guess the next question is: why? Why is this plateau hard to break through?

I just printed out our handicap list at the club.
128 men. Stronger than average golfers.

Handicap
+0.1 or better =4 golfers
0 to 3.0 = 8 golfers
3.1 to 6.0 = 19 golfers
6.1 to 9.0 = 23 golfers
9.1 to 12.0 = 18 golfers

That's 72 of the 128 at 12 or less!
Keep in mind that number does not include golfers that don't use the handicap system, most of which would be higher than 12.

I have heard that the US HDC system is different from the european, in the way that a european HDC 3 player is better than a US HDC 3 player.

Can anyone clearify these rules, or will i be lynched now

3.1 handicap here!!
I have heard this alright that it is easier to lower your handicap with the US system alright but i can't really comment as I don't know how this system works. In Ireland we use the CONGU system which I can explain if anyone wants me to. Could someone maybe explain the US system please?
