I work about a mile from there. Tell him to check out Four Peaks for some good local beer. Just a few weeks until Pumpkin Porter!

Wonder - thing with flagstaff is that there only two courses (pinewood/continental???) in flag that are public. There's elephant rocks 30-40 mins away in Wlliams too. Flagstaff is fantastic if u can get hookups at forest highlands/pine canyon/flagstaff ranch but it's hard to come by if u don't know a member or don't work in the golf industry...

Therefore without connections I would probably recommend Prescott/Sedona over Flag. Prescott would be antelope hills/stone ridge and Sedona would be Sedona golf resort/oak creek cc...both of those are good trips.

Ok cool I'll give it a shot. I've actually played Elephant Rock. The bartender made the best Bloody Mary I've ever had in my life.

^ I have only played elephant rocks when it was only a 9 hole course so haven't played the "new" 9. Pretty fun course from what I remember.

Also, got a last minute invite today at 1:30 for Arizona CC for a cart fee $20....pretty pumped as I haven't been out there in a few years. Will try to snap a few pics

only grabbed a few pics from Arizona Country Club but the course was in fantastic shape and greens were some of the fastest I have played on all summer..

first pic is instagramed, rest are no filter

hit the ball all over the place but somehow had it at 1 under through 14 and then collapsed down the stretch to shoot +4.

this course is true old school golf and I like it way better than phoenix cc

I wish I could play on a course that had fairways like that, hard to miss when they're that wide.
Golf in Phoenix Quote
09-13-2013 , 04:05 PM
to be honest I guess I ended up taking pictures on some of the widest fairways but a lot of the holes were doglegs and the fairways are relatively hard to hit and all tree lined. it looks super wide in the pics for sure

I only hit a handful of fairways all day actually lol

Wow. Looks amazing. Love older courses. Add in the views of camelback mtn and man I'm stoked. Met a dude the other day who just became a member there.

Any idea what the membership fees are there?

no clue, but ask him to get you out there in the middle of the winter...I remember the greens being crazy good in the middle of the season. I love the square tee boxes cut all short too, small thing to do but makes a big difference imo

Yeah I haven't been anywhere in a long time with nice tee boxes. All way to high, uneven

getting hooked up at pointe at tapatio cliffs in about 45 minutes. grew up right around the corner from there and always liked the course. It's a little goofy but when it's in good shape it's a fun track to play and I heard it's in good shape. Will report back later.

ended up shooting probably my second best round of my life yesterday at the pointe from the tips. course was in awesome shape and greens rolled fast and true, shame they will be scalping it in a week or so

only snapped one pic unfortunately

the round was pretty crazy, started with birdies on the first 3 holes, then doubled the 4th..

stat of the day that I don't think I will ever accomplish again...made 6 birdies and had three 3 putts on par 5's for par.....if only I could replicate this type of round all the time but it was just one of those days were it was going where I was looking

all in all ended up at 3 under 69

I'm always baffled by people who say they like Phoenix CC better than Arizona CC. I live near both and have a lot of friends who are members of each and to me it's not even close. ACC must have 40-50% more acreage for one thing, it's not all crammed together. The superintendent at Phoenix CC is a really nice guy and a hell of a golfer (recently won some national superintendent tournament out at Torrey Pines) so I don't doubt the condition of the course but technology has pushed it to its limits.

By the way, ACC also managed to oversell their jr. memberships to the point where guests aren't even allowed some days. Fridays for sure and possibly weekends. They could be the only country club in town to actually have a successful membership drive in recent years. Everywhere else it seems like the members are old and dying, but they should be set for awhile.

Played We-ko-pa three times over the weekend in an event (Cholla / Saguaro / Cholla). There is just no overstating how terrible those bunkers are. They are almost all way too thin. In the thousands of rounds I have played over the years I can't recall a time where I actually complained about the bunkers - after all, they are hazards and one shouldn't necessarily expect fluffy lies and good times - but these are an embarrassment given the course they are on. They aren't even muni-worthy.

The issue, apparently, is that the tribe is now running the course. OB Sports evidently pulled out of their management agreement due to a dispute. What I heard (and this could be totally wrong as it's secondhand / thirdhand / etc.) is that the tribe was meddling with the personnel in charge, insisting on having one of their own overseeing things and from there it kind of unspooled and now the tribe is trying to go it alone.

Also, good pics as always. I know Lookout Mountain is a pretty goofy course but it's fun and scenic and as long as you can hit it relatively straight it's easy to go low because it's pretty short. Certainly far from boring.

regarding ACC - yeah I heard the same thing from my buddy...guests aren't allowed to play on Fridays or Saturdays (can't remember which one) EVEN WITH A MEMEBER LOL. and yes ACC dominates PCC all day long.

Lookout Mtn - yeah it's super short and if you don't hit it in the desert you can go low as I managed to do. I'm just kicking myself because it was one of those rounds that I could have done something really special like 65-66 legitimately. Career best is 66 at OrangeTree (LOL) which I am hoping to break someday but it's freaking hard to string together an entire round these days.

Sucks to hear about WeKoPa...I only get out there once or twice a year but that places is always nice but i think I do remember the bunkers being a little iffy earlier this summer. Easy solution is to hit it straighter

Just got back from my golf trip in Flagstaff and it was nothing short of epic. Will post write up and lots of pics later today or tomorrow.

here's the write up for the golf trip that can only be described as epic. I could retire from golf right now and be a happy man for all of the golf, hanging with friends, poker and degenerating that went on for the 5 days of this trip.

Trip Details: Total of 12 guys took part in this trip all from Phoenix, AZ. Four rounds of golf. Stayed at my buddies cabin directly behind the 14th tee at Meadow Course at Forest Highlands in Flagstaff, Arizona which is 2 hours North of Phoenix.

Saturday Day 1- Leave Phoenix at 6:15 AM to for 9 AM tee at Seven Canyons in Sedona. From what I understand, they have just gone back to almost fully private again with no tee times on golf now. The course conditions have improved considerably over the last 12-18 months in my opinion. Greens weren't lightning fast by any means but solid bent grass greens with tons of slope. Here's a few of the pics. A few of the fairways hadn't been mowed yet early in the round as you can probably tell but no biggie.

Finish the round at Seven Canyons and drive up 89A to make a beeline to Forest Highlands. Here's a few pics of the cabin my buddy's family owns. A few of the pics show the views from the living room/kitchen which looks directly up towards San Francisco Peaks. It is perfect for a golf outing and is 100% comfortbable for 12 guys. Please note the picture of the fridge doesn't show the 450+ beers in coolers outside lol.

Sunday Day 2 - We get up obviously all sober as could be. Drive over 20 mins or so to Pinewood CC in Munds Park which is about 15 miles South of Flagstaff. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the round at Pinewood since I was far too busy slamming beers. The course itself sits right off the I-17 and doesn't have the prettiest views in the state by any means but the condition of this course this time of the year is amazing for what it is. Greens are extremely pure and fast. Almost every green is a turtleback so it's a lot harder course than what it appears to be. Saying that, it is a pretty short course so there is birdies to be had. This course is semi-private so you can play it on golf now and I would highly recommend it as it's a very fun course.

Monday Day 3 - Time for Forest Highlands. First up is the Meadow course which our group has always declared the more fun of the two courses at Forest Highlands. It's always ranked a little lower than Canyon but to us it just flows better and is a little more open. Conditons are just outstanding and pure. Feels like the closest I will ever get to Augusta National conditions. Green speed here was listed at 11.9. Here's a few pics.

Day 4 Tuesday - Canyon Course Forest Highlands. I don't have a ton of pics as a lot of the awesome holes we played when it was extremely shady because the course winds in and out of a Canyon. Greens were just about identical speed to meadow but maybe a fraction slower if anything. Course is downright magestic but there's a few holes that are extremely hard and there's a weird arrangement where every other hole is a par 3 for awhile...but obviously this place is always listed as one of the top 3 courses in the state for a reason. I didn't take as many pics as I should because I was struggling mightly during this round probably due to being a degen for the three previous days my body was basically shutting down it felt like. I brought no game to the round but still had a great time.

Day 5 Wednesday - got up pretty early and headed home safe.

Hope you guys enjoy the pics and if you have any questions or comments I would be happy to address them.
