I i made a reservation (albeit very $$) at shadow creek one day
Anyone here played there, not that it will change my opinion as being one of the coolest golf courses ever....but more to get me pumped up at the though of playing it

Also Rio Secco. any input there???

I think i will also play the tpc canyon course. i played there a couple years back and reall yliked it so i think ill give it another shot too.

canyon is a great track.

My course rankings in Vegas: Have played all listed except for one. Have grouped them.



1. Coyote Springs (45 mins North of strip) – Impeccably groomed, very driver friendly, great par 3’s, requires tons of thought to get around the course. Very difficult, well protected greens.
2. Reflection Bay (30 mins SE of strip)– Tough course, offers different strategies, well maintained.
3. Paiute Wolf (30 mins NW of strip)– Most difficult greens to read in Vegas. Reachable par-5’s, very challenging.

4. Wolf Creek (75 mins N of strip)– Plays like a video game. If that’s your cup of tea, it’s a blast. I find the rough to be overly punitive for a course that is difficult on its own.
5. TPC Las Vegas (formerly TPC Canyons) (15 mins NW of strip)– The staff is a little lame, but the course is very solid and well maintained. Tough greens, got to know where to miss.
6. Bear’s Best (25 mins W of strip)– Just a rock solid track. Tends to play slow.
7. Wynn (on strip) – Very nice, very expensive, tricky greens.
8. Rio Secco (20 mins S of strip)– I think the greens are a little circus-like. Outstanding course though.
9. The Falls (30 mins SE of strip)– Temporarily closed sister course to Reflection Bay. Not in the same league, but still a great course.

10. Bali Hai (on strip) – Expensive but nice. Cool bunkers. Limited practice facilities.
11. Primm Valley Resort (45 mins S of strip)– Not my favorite and a bit of a hike, but always in good shape and easy to play fast on.
12. Badlands (15 mins NW of strip)– Target golf that frankly takes a little creativity out of the game. Course recently re-did their greens and they are in excellent shape. Agree with those who note Outlaw is a really lame 9 and its better on Desperado and Diablo.
13. Paiute Snow Mountain (30 mins NW of strip)– Challenging course with a great final 3 holes.
14. Casablanca Golf Resort (75 mins N of strip)– Very nice course.

15. Royal Links (20 mins E of strip) – Haven’t played but friends disliked it strongly.
16. The Legacy (15 mins SE of strip)– Been a while since I’ve played it but really enjoyed it.
17. Revere at Anthem Lexington (20 mins S of strip)– Solid course other than really lame hole #10 I think it is.
18. Boulder Creek (30 mins SE of strip)– Tends to play fast, nice course.
19. Paiute Sun Mountain (30 mins NW of strip– Easiest of the three Paiute courses.
20. Rhodes Ranch (20 mins SW of strip)– Plays closest to a Midwestern course than most in Vegas.

21. Red Rock Arroyo (25 mins W of strip) – Not the best maintained.
22. Revere at Anthem Concord (20 mins S of strip)– Decent, good views, not very imaginative.
23. Angel Park (15 mins NW of strip)– Slow, glorified muni. Nice night-lit par-3 course though.

I think my golf scedule for the week will be
1) Shadow creek
2) TPC LV
3) Either Bears Best or Reflection Bay. Probably play this one by ear depending on what happens earlier in the week. May only get a chance to play twice so i guess i go with my first 2.

When did TPC @ the canyons change names??

Ha. Don't worry about it man, glad you were able to get helpful input.

Also, Reflection Bay must be somewhere near Boulder City and the US 95 interchange. On those occasions when I go to Vegas I usually drive and "30 minutes SE of strip" puts it about right there.

EDIT: looking at that list, I had no idea Desert Pines was actually a muni. The one time I played it was very much like the Raven here, with lots of pine trees and pine straw. Good course but it was a little cramped.

Reflection Bay and The Falls are back in Lake Las Vegas.

My wife and I were playing at Falcon Ridge a couple of years ago, and got paired with an older Asian couple. Turned out they were staying/playing at LLV and had run out to Mesquite for the day.

They were apparently very well off, and when talk turned to work, the husband said he was in "cane foo". I was chuckling, thinking of KaneKungFu because I'm a dork, but we honestly couldn't understand what he was saying. After a while, we figured out it was "canned food". After the trip, we told our friends we were playing golf with Lee Kum Kee.

He actually hit it off with my wife because she's Chinese and speaks Mandarin. His wife heard this and said, "You're Chinese?!" I said, "My wife is...I'm Japanese." She gives the light (or not so light?) sneer and says, "That's what I thought."

They had the middle tees up for some reason that day. I should have moved back, but that's the old dude was playing from, and it was nice to go driver-short-iron on every hole for once (still shot 83, though, 'cause I suck.)

Wolf@Pauite is such a good/tough track

I played that one and then I think the middle of the 3 in terms of toughness, not sure which one that was, guess it's Snow according to Clark. That course was fun and had some cool holes.

I just wish those tracks weren't so far away, I lived a minute from the RR casino and it was still a hike.

Clark how you cannot include Tuscany or Sienna in your list?
Unless you have not played them.

Also I have a soft spot for Painted Desert

Though My fav is still Tuscany for the $

Have not played any of those (basically, if its not on my list, I haven't played it). I've heard good things about Painted Desert.

I also enjoyed Desert Pines but could understand why many dont. Best of the Walters Golf I have played though only played two

painted desert is boring tbh, it seemed like every hole was dead straight away and short. i played it twice last year and both times the greens were nice, but there really wasn't much to the course.

that said now i want to go and play it again.

I liked it cause in nice shape, great greens. It is a shorter course. Though I liked the fact we showed up after Pauite and he lets us play at 2:00 Pm for $26.00 each and threw in a hot dog and beer

Coming to Vegas April 16th-20th. Any yokels want to play with a fellow hacker? I have a 12 NCGA index. Can play anytime on Friday, Sat , or Sun. I will have a car so can get anywhere.

As Usual 2 rounds at Badlands and Tuscany and mix in a few others. Hopefully we can get a deal at pauitee

How is Las Vegas National? I like the sound of old Vegas and being close to the strip, but is it worth ~$100?

Also, has anyone been hooked up with good rates through their hotel concierge (I'm staying at Bellagio)?

I played it and not bad. Worth $100 as very close. It used to host the ladies LPGA event

wait, is LV Nat'l in a really ****ty neighborhood? If so, not worth $100.

What does it matter do you plan on chasing down the balls you hit on the road?

I hit one in a guys pool once. I was looking for my ball and he tells me Its in my pool. I apoligized and he was hey I bought a house on a golf course.

What do any of you guys think of silverstone golf club out there??

silverstone is short from the mens tees but still fun (deff worth it to play this course from tips to get a lot out of it). i think they laid it out nicely where you have 1 driveable par 4 on every 9, and at at least one easy par 5 per 9.

it is a resort desert course basically, but the desert is not very difficult to get out of (more like dirt than rocks and s--t).

the greens are pretty big out there and they're not too fast.

your green fee should come with free practice balls (nice ones) that they setup in triangles for you.

i played it 5 times or so last summer and i dont think i ever paid more than 25$ at twlight. during the day it might be closer to $40. that said if you're a non resident, for the money you are going to have to pay to play there, you'd be better checking some other courses out.

if you're really into the whole resort course gig, in my opinion look no further than paiute.

OH YEA JUST REMEMBERED....they have the WORST water coolers ever out there (hopefully its changed by now). instead of pressing a button like a release valve to let water trickle down into your cup, you have to pump the s--t out...so bring your own water.

the burgers there are really really really good.

SO many decisions now

i'm in vegas from june 17 - july 17. i'll have my clubs and would like to play a lot. if anyone wants to play, post here or shoot me a pm. thx.

Played Legacy, it was only $25 after 330, its another $25 for club rental if you need that, luckily I brought my clubs. The course was pretty empty and the wide fairways were nice. I shot 42 on the front(par 36), I'm a 12 handicap, so I thought it was a pretty easy front 9 at least. We got through 14 on the back, I actually drove a dogleg left on the back. We played the whites obv. But the gist is for $25, pretty good deal.

re: legacy is easy

the whites are the womens tees out there.

from the back that course is an absolute animal, and from the men's tees its still pretty tough.
