Badlands is target golf many just do not like that. Heck I think you hit a driver on one hole.
Pauite Sun is still my fav of the three though I did play wolf in a 15-20MPH winds

re: Badlands - I've never played it, but I've yet to find anyone who likes this course. Lots of complaints about the target golf setup of the course.

All of us in our group enjoy playing it all 3 tracks. Always in great shape.

Badlands is pretty intimidating on Google Earth. Just oceans of desert with little green islands of grass. I mean, most of the courses in that area look like that to some degree, but Badlands seems like it has the least grass acreage of them all.

No doubt it's difficult, I worked there for a little over a year and recall breaking par just a few times on the Desperado/Diablo setup. Outlaw is much more friendly and has a couple sick par 5s but the rest of the 9 is meh.

Will be in Vegas for work in October and will have a chance to play Monday 10/13 (I get in at 9am and can any time that day once I get in from the airport) and then will probably play again very early on Friday 10/17 (going to try and get out as first group wherever I play if possible, I have a 1:40 PM flight).

Not looking to spend $500 (so no Shadow Creek or Wynn)...have been looking at Badlands/Paiute. Any recommendations geared towards a lower handicap player?

Also would potentially be interested if anyone wanted to join.

Played Paiute wolf in April and it was awesome. Fun track - decent price. Good food, too!

Didn't realize how expensive it was out there...probably gonna do a twilight round at Paiute Wolf on Monday. Is Angel Park a **** hole? Looking there for Friday, seems to be decent prices but that may be bc its garbage.

Just sign up for Golf Now daily deals and book a days before. Badlands is very nice. Angel Park never the conditions you get.

Or try Stand By Golf or Golf Hub

Yeah that's what I will probably do for Friday, thanks.

sorry to be responding a little late. Angel Park is definitely not a **** hole (no Summerlin-area courses are **** holes). But it is a public course that gets lots of play so it is not high-end either. Pauite would definitely be "nicer" if that's what you mean.

also some courses re-seed here in late August-early September so you may want to make sure this is not going on before you get out there. Unless you like grassless fairways (better roll at least) and greens.

Ok cool...good to hear...I may head out there Friday morning then.

I'll be out there in mid October so hopefully re-seeding is done at that point...I will check with them though, thanks.

Angel Park has a 12-hole par-3 course and each hole is a replica of a famous hole around the world. Can't remember if all the holes recreated are par-3s themselves or if they also recreated the green complexes of longer holes. Either way it seems pretty cool and would be fun if it's in decent condition. Took a scorecard for that course when I was out there this summer but don't have it handy.

if you can get the locals rate, the angel park par 3 course is extremely good value, perhaps the best bang for your buck anywhere!

re: Angel Park par 3 course

I've played it a few times and it is pretty nice. I had heard that it is supposed to be a replica of several famous par 3s as well. However, most of the holes are pretty unspectacular. The only hole I could definitely identify is the island green hole which clearly is modeled after the TPC Sawgrass hole. Also there is a hole w/ a massive 2-tiered green (I think it used to be shared by two holes but that got changed at some point) which I think is modeled after an old course in the UK and a 100 yd. par 3 where you tee off like 40 yards above the green which sort of looks like that short par 3 at Pebble Beach (minus the ocean in the background).

however if you really are in the mood to play a par 3 course, I would skip Angel Park and go 2 miles directly north up Rampart Blvd. to Durango Hills. They are priced roughly the same and you get 18 holes (14 par 3, 4 par 4) at DH instead of 12 at AP and DH is a pretty nice course as well.

That's a good tip, thanks. Had never heard of it. For all the overbuilding of golf courses in Vegas and Phoenix, we're woefully short on supply of decent executive layouts.

Went to Vegas last week with a bunch of guys...mostly hackers.

Wolf Creek in Mesquite is incredible...a bit of a trek, sort of a cool desert drive of 75-90 minutes, but course is unlike any I've ever played...if you play the right tees, not impossible though you will lose your share of balls. Only downsides were price (175), slowish greens and lack of GPS/yardage markers.

Las Vegas National - Centrally located, just a few minutes from the strip. Classic course from 60's...in good shape, played with local who pointed out all the celebrities homes along fairways, played fairly quickly. Course is like a relic of old vegas...the location, which must have been like fifth avenue back in the 60s, is really divey...personally, if I ever wanted to live in vegas I think it would be an interesting place to invest/live. One of the few places in Vegas that still has a little bit of character and history.

FWIW, went to Lotus of Siam twice...truly great thai food, in a dive setting. Fantastic wine list, especially german whites. BLT Burger also had beer list...don't know about chow.

Most recently, played Sand Hollow in Hurricane, which I thought was really good. In the past, I've played Entrada which I didn't enjoy as much as some of the holes in the lava fields are borderline unfair. Sunbrook is a 27-hole muni facility that was a lot of fun, but I think it's closed on Sundays. Also, Coral Canyon is a nice course, although a little pricey.

ETA: a shot from Entrada and Coral Canyon in this thread

Bali Hai and Royal you can walk with a caddie. Only way to fly if you are indulging yourself. 100 bucks plus a small tip. So for a minimum buy in at 1/2 Nl, you never get a yardage, fix a divot, rake a trap, and you have someone to talk to for 4 hours. Pretty good deal.

I've got a tee time at Bears Best for 2 at 10:20 on Thursday. My buddy had to cancel and none of my other golf buddies can make it.

I've got a 2-1 deal, so if you're a local it'll only be $45 each! Not sure what it is for a non local. They've apparently aerated the greens this week, too.

So if anyone wants to join me, PM me! First one who wants it gets it.
