OK - but the shots they showed did look like he might have been 20 yards or so ahead of where he should have been - nothing said afterwards though.

Didn't they get rid of the late call in calls like this, card was signed and all good now or is it they can still give him the penalty but no DQ

I thought that was only for when for instance a ball moved by a tiny amount and was later shown on slo-mo, but I might be wrong. I would guess that if he was shown to have played too far forward he might get another 2-shot penalty for playing from the wrong place as at the Masters, and still make the cut. But I'm really not sure.

You think a marshal or someone could just tell a player where it went in. I mean getting the exact spot from 270 yards a way is a bit tough.

It's an estimated point of entry if I'm not mistaken. You're supposed to communicate with the players in your group if there is any confusion and use all the information available to determine the spot to drop.
