Bit of the same boat for me. Tho not an old fart (yet) The thing that kept us from playing 36 any day this trip was the fact the place is slammed. We booked in April and earliest tee time we got was 9:50. I don't feel like I need to cram it in when we are there tho I'll make a trip up every month pretty much until the rates go back up. Just too good of a deal in the winter to pass up living this close. We just watch the weather and jam up when it looks good. Usually me and one other die hard buddy. This trip we have 11 so but tougher with the booking.

I couldn't imagine having a good time doing 36/day if the weather wasn't cooperating.

The 1 bad weather day we got where it poured/blew in the morning during our preserve round, followed by good weather at Mac, was a plenty long day.

I don't think I'll ever plan 36/day for winter trips, but preserve +18 is fine.

If you are in the area I can see playing less than 36 in a day. For me it's flying to the other corner of the country followed by the longest car ride ever to get there. Hell, I played 36 plus the preserve in rainy, 50* weather back in march.

oh, and it looks like that's the north range, which means Shorty's at the south range will be open after your round.

I don't know how much you can count on an Oregon coast forecast, but looks amazing, good luck!
the thing i've discovered about weather forecasts at bandon is the majority of rain happens at night. it may be a 50-80% chance of rain, but a 70-80% chance the rain happens before the sun comes up.

that looks like every round i played in early january from 2013 to 2016. several of those rounds were finished wearing shorts (start in the morning wearing rain pants at the range and take them off somewhere in the middle of the front nine).

interesting story: our group has had one other ace at Bandon. one of the guys actually broke his 5i at the range before the round, and while standing on the tee at Bandon #2 said he would usually hit his 5i at that distance but had to use his 4i instead. you can guess the rest.
meant to add this to the above post at the time i typed it but had been drinking and forgot...and didn't remember until now.

one of the cool things at Bandon is they will give you a framed picture of the hole you ace with an inscription of your name and the date and time you did it....Preserve included.

At dinner at the gallery. Ordered a wagyu burger topped with lobster. Will report back.

Played ok today, scrapped out and 83 with a triple and 2 doubles. Bandon Dunes Trip Report big numbers gonna happen out here gotta accept it. Highlights of trip so far is showing up not realizing another group of 8 guys we know are here, so we are pretty deep in here haha. Second highlight driving number 14, two putting for birdie for all 14 skins. 🏌️⛳️

14th tee box. For those who haven't been, this is the highest point on the property. The green is way down ther in the distance. People either love it or hate it.

i only played Trails 14 twice before the renovation. they shaved the back off of the turtle and it's still a ***** of a hole.
before the remodel the safest play was to land a layup around 200 yards out and hope it stuck to the hillside above the hole. it was damn near impossible if your tee shot hit the hillside and ran down to the collection area.
your second could be the best nipped chip of your life off of the tightest lies you've ever played to a green 30 yards over your head and it would still end up back at your feet.
please kick me in the nuts again, sir....over and over again.

I'm a left-to-right ball flight player so 14 doesn't set up well for me... Driver isn't my best option so I just hit a 3w at the left edge of the green; try to get it on the ledge short of the green - in 6 rounds or whatever I've got a birdie from short right, 2 pars, 2 bogies and a big number. It's a good hole, but it's book ended by two of my favorites.

15 at Trails may be my favorite hole in the world (but so is 6) and 13 is such a great challenge.

Jeez, that forecast looks amazing, even the wind looks down, ~8 mph all day? Jeez, we got 25+ during all but 1 round, and it made it really hard! I hit some hilariously long clubs from short yardages that week.

Looks great out there, maybe we didn't get as lucky as I thought. I figured we were really fortunate to get rained on for about 9 holes and get 20-40 mph winds all week.
