Watching that ep I shutter whenever I see the 4th hole. Literally have never played that hole well, EVER.

it's a tough tee shot with that pot bunker out there. i can tell you from experience it's surprising how many times you can find a ball that's hit in the waste area to the right.

after watching the latest episode i'm really impressed by how much squid seems to be helping the guys, especially with putts. just found out his last name is Calamaro, hence 'squid'

One of my most memorable shots ever from bandon is a perfectly struck drawn 6 iron to a middle back flag on #4.

The first time I ever played it I made a 9 though. Right waste area. A few chunked shots out of the sandy area. Ping ponged it back and fourth across the green. We started on the 10th as my first trip was late November and there was a frost delay. So I had a decent round going and boom; 9!!! Good hole.

So I have a lease that ends in September next year. It still has 20k miles left on it. Convinced the wife to drive to Bandon this Summer, but I can't see myself driving 3,200 miles one way. Google maps says it's 49 hours of driving.

you could make a fantastic national park swing if you drive a bit out of the way either north (into Montana and Wyoming) or south (into Utah and Northern California).

The hardest part would be for the wife to be able to get 2 weeks off of work to make this happen. Our plan would be to pretty much drive non-stop with is taking shifts driving and getting there as fast as possible. Even doing like 3 16 hours days of driving would get us there.

Depending on how long we would want to stay at Bandon there would be some time for side trips on the way back home too I guess. Damn, now I'm thinking of doing this more and more now.

This is def happening now. Looking at the 2nd week of May, going to call for times and a room on Monday. Should be fairly easy as a single. Question for the Bandonistas, is the Summer wind around in May or is that still the winter winds?

typically from the south earlier in the month and north later in the month.

Crossings looks like an interesting course. Certainly doesn't look like it suits my game fairly well. I just don't see playing it unless there are no tee times at Bandon (which never happens) or I am completely broke (which hopefully never happens).

never played it, but I think it’s always fun playing lesser known courses that other people like. nobody is claiming it’s a top 100 public course, but it looks like there are more than enough fun holes to make it worth the time.
they pretty much said as much in the video. if you’re headed south after Bandon and have four hours to give, it’s worth it.

the NLU Tetherow episode starts at 5pm PST. Worth posting in the Bandon thread because it's a David McLay Kidd course

played it once many years ago and have very fuzzy memories of the layout other than it was very links-like and super fast, both fairway and green. looking forward to a memory refresher.

Wow that course looks amazing. It looks like a kick you in the head kinda fun too. I screwed up on passing on it when I was there last year. I will be back in August.

Yeah I am super interested in a lot of the rest of these Oregon places they've been. Gearhart & Bend are high on the list of places I want to check out sometime.

Bandon related I don't know if I mentioned it but we rented a house in town this past summer for the US Am but had to cancel due to Covid (my parents and aunt/uncle who are older were coming and it didn't make sense to go) but we're booked for the same time this coming August; so without the Amateur at the resort we'll prob have even more time to get out and see some stuff within "day trip" range from Bandon and I am pretty excited to just see more of the state. GF and I are driving out there, too - so we might try to hit Silvies or Bend on the way and do an afternoon round at Tetherow and stay there for the night or something.

August is a great time to visit Oregon, provided the state isn’t on fire.
What state will you be traveling from?

i ask what direction you're coming from because Oregon is a really big state and it can take a while to travel long distances. Bandon to Bend is a 5 hour drive, and Bend to Silvies is almost 3 hours on top of that (Silvies is pretty much in the middle of nowhere unless you're coming from Idaho).
it can take almost 5 hours to drive the state north/south on I-5 between the California and Washington borders and 9 hours to drive highways east/west between the coast and the Idaho border.

Anyone who ventures out to play Gearhart should hit me up and get in a round at Astoria Country Club.

I'm coming from Colorado.

Gearhart and Astoria look awesome, too. I have a Bandon trip scheduled for November 1-4, 2021 also - good time of the year for Astoria/Gearhart if I flew in to PDX?

Tetherow or Pronghorn Nicklaus. Brasada Canyons is also near Bend and supposed to be great but i think you have to stay at the resort to play, same goes for Crosswater at Sunriver. Tetherow has morning and afternoon times for non-members. Pronghorn Nicklaus is public. Silvies can almost be on the way if you're coming from CO thru Boise, which is probably the way you'd want to go if going to Bend. they also require you to stay at the resort (there isn't anywhere else to stay out there anyway).

if you give yourself more time around the Bend area let me know and i can recommend more courses...lots of great golf around those parts.

It's a bit of a gamble that time of year, but mostly with a bit of rain. I played this past weekend and it was 50 degrees and sunny, with very little wind. But today the rain is coming down.

Speaking of baked out, I'd imagine you wouldn't have to drive too far around there to find a meth lab.
