8 day countdown. Flying to Medford next Tuesday morning. 10 day forecast is less than idea but we know how much that can change.

What course are the NLU guys showcasing this week?

Guessing Sheep, Trails, Bandon from the trailer.

Sheep Ranch confirmed for tonight's Tourist Sauce. I'm excited to see it, I think it's my favorite course out there. I failed at my trip report, but here are some pictures from August.

Tee box to#3 green, 113 yards. Nasty, NASTY cross wind, and two of our foursome putted it off the tee. I didn't; tried a knockdown but had too much club, and while I landed pin high, I rolled all the way down the hill through #16 green (they're shared greens, pretty much) before settling in the tall stuff right on the bluff. Actually made par.

Tee box on #6. That's the green in the distance over those bluffs. Wind was in our favor, but no one tried to cut it.

Pretty much how the flagsticks were looking all day:

#7 green

Standing on 16 green with 17 fairway in the distance. Caddie says a popular tee box when Sheep was "choose your own adventure" was just on the edge there, over the gap. Said the caddies call that spot the "unofficial championship tees."

Side story: when we made the turn one of our playing partner's dad (waiting at the clubhouse) said a six-some teed off, and he asked the ranger if they usually allow six-somes. Ranger's response: "100% of the time when you own the place." So yeah, Mike Keiser was out there with some USGA folks, and that's him walking up the path on the right. We're putting on 16, and a group of guys with caddies, not playing, comes walking through. The main group walked on by, but Keiser and one of the USGA guys just stand on the edge of the cliff right off the green and chat for a bit while we play out.

Fun tree on 17 green.

Six was playing dead into the wind during preview play. A totally different hole then!

re: putting off the tee on #3, i have a lot of fun at the Old Mac putting green using my 2h and putting from way back near the parking lot/access road. they keep that whole stretch mowed tight. of course it's more forgiving when the green slopes up from front to back and not the opposite direction

So good. Made me itching to go back, and REALLY itching to play it without wind, ha.

Video really doesn't do that course justice. Just saw that I have a work trip to Bend scheduled for mid-August. Looks like I will be able to see Summer Bandon this time. Just hope I'm traveling for work again by then. Even moreso because I have a work trip to Hawaii in July as well. Nice little stretch for me as I am in NC earlier in July too.

scott, hit me up later about that Bend trip. I have a good friend that works at Crosswater and can get people on even when not staying at the resort. also other good friends in the area that have access privileges to other courses.

Postponed my trip due to not wanting to fly/travel with the recent major increases in covid cases. And Oregon has no dine in eating for two weeks starting Wednesday (which isn't a huge deal but just doesn't feel like a good time to fly out there).

Re-booked first week of November next year; similar schedule and got a room at the lodge which I like a lot so I can get up and stretch at the gym in the morning and then have breakfast at the gallery before heading out to whatever course.

Understandable, but I'm sure it's a bummer to have to wait a year.

sorry to hear that KJ but i'm sure you made the right choice. that's what i was telling myself back in June when we cancelled. just hoping all things covid turn around before our Jan trip.

also, the current forecast. would have been a test of your game and your gear:

Quote:
...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO
1 PM PST TUESDAY...

* WHAT...South winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph
expected. Cape Blanco and other headlands could see gusts in
excess of 80 mph.

next weekend looks great, but a lot of rough spots between now and then.

Yup. Sad to have to wait for sheep ranch but the weather and covid are good reasons to miss at this time - this year will fly by as they all do.

Ooooooo, the first week of November was the week I was trying to get a group to go out there next year too. I really need to start working on that immediately.

Yeah - tee times are already pretty scarce the first two weeks of November 2021 and that was booking as a single

Trails episode of NLU dropped this evening.

lots of fun in this, but added to the mix is some of the guys playing with Amanda Jacobs, who won the 2020 Oregon Amateur in June, and Gretchen Johnson who i believe is the fastest women's speed golfer in the world. both play out of Waverly in PDX, Amanda off of +2.2 and Gretchen off of +1.4. both have low HCs in the +3s.

Forgot about it so I just finished watching it. That's exactly why Trails is my favorite course on property.

that's the beauty of Bandon.
ask someone what their favorite course is and they'll likely give you a different answer from the next person you ask.
you can't argue with any of them about their choice because none of them are wrong.

Truth. Sheep is my favorite, followed by Trails, then Pac. I haven't played any of the others, unfortunately. For whatever reason Pac just doesn't have the same effect on me as it does others. Don't get me wrong, it's still a top 5 favorite course I've played, jumbled somewhere with Sheep, Trails, Pebble Beach, and Chambers Bay.

Porter - curious how many times you've played each? obviously first impressions are lasting, but i've changed my opinion about courses i didn't initially like because they kicked me squarely in the nuts the first time i played them.

I've played Pacific twice, both beautiful days but windy, and Trails and Sheep only once. First blush, it could be that I just don't like playing in the wind, hence Pac behind Trails, but that doesn't explain Sheep, which the windiest of any course I've ever played.

Sheep is just on a magical piece of land and Coore and Crenshaw are two of the few in the world that could squeeze an 18 hole routing on to the acreage without ****ing it up.
