Bandon and USGA set to host a bunch more amateur championships in the coming years: https://www.usga.org/content/usga/ho...tml#returnable

Including the 2029 Walker Cup

And I head out to Bandon in two weeks (August 5th to 16th). Not staying at the resort - just rented a beach house with my parents and some other family and we're just getting out of the heat and chillin at the ocean. I will plan to get out to Sheep Ranch and probably play a few rounds; some will depend on my brothers work schedule (he's a caddie and they're super busy). Originally slated to go on this trip last August for the US Am but covid - still excited to go and get to spend more time checking out the Oregon coast and the town of Bandon, etc.

Then real golf trips scheduled for 1st week of November and end of April 2022.

KJ - i saw a similar email today from BD today listing all of the tourneys they'll host in the coming years...exciting stuff

i'm sure your brother can give solid reqs for places to eat in Bandon town, but here are a few i've actually been to and enjoyed (in no particular order):
Shoestring Cafe
La Fiesta
Tony's Crab Shack
Bandon Bait
Angelo's
The Wheelhouse

have fun...i'm jealous

Lol, the only two places I have ate at in town have been Subway and Dairy Queen.

I’ve been to Asian garden, lord Bennett’s, Tony’s crab shack, the arcade (caddie bar) and Bandon pizza. Looking forward to trying some of Redeyes suggestions.

Report out Tuesday (can't remember the source) that Keiser is tentatively planning a SIXTH course with Kidd, south of the current resort. Bandon is crazy.

I thought I heard that it was going to be south of the town and it would be a muni, a really great muni.

not just one, but two.

Keiser finally gave up the idea of a 27 hole muni south of town that would have required land swapping with BLM and 'settled' for 18 holes on property he already owns. sounds like Kidd will design 'New River Dunes'.
Doak also to design a new par 3 course adjacent to Trails and the Preserve. i don't believe the article mentions the number of holes.

take Angelo's Italy off the list. talked to a buddy of mine and it sounds like the original chef (father) passed away a year or so ago and the food has really suffered. it was great a couple of years ago when i was last there but apparently no more.

Played sheep ranch this afternoon. Will post more when I’m home next week but it’s a really fun course. So many greens and holes along the cliffs and some really good holes.

My brother (a BD caddie) is good friends with the pro at Bandon Crossings and he played with us today. 7 birdies and a really disappointing 70 after he bogied the last two holes. Was fun to watch even as I was shelling out $$ for a birdie game and Nassau I got waxed in.

After Delta (Airlines; not the virus variant, although we'll see) changed my flight plans 3 times this summer I seem to have a solid itinerary for my fall Bandon trip later this month. Fly to Eugene Saturday the 30th and fly home Thursday the 4th so 4 days of 36 scheduled:

Trails/Bandon
Old Mac/Sheep
Sheep/Bandon
Pacific/Trails

Staying at the lodge and will try the new steakhouse that replaced the Gallery restaurant one night. Here's to good weather and good rain gear as a backup plan

was it a tough choice picking the courses to only play once, or did your dates help make the decision for you?

curious to hear what you think about the restaurant re-do at the lodge. from what i can tell all breakfast is gone other than a very limited to-go selection at the Puffin. no more buffet, but more importantly no more corned beef hash .
still grab & go stuff at Trails and Pacific seems to have a very limited menu from what it used to be.

Yeah I knew I wanted sheep twice this trip one morning and one afternoon to help solidify my opinion and I always aim to play Bandon twice as it’s probably my favorite course at the resort. Then it was filling in tee times and trying to get as many early rounds where the replay is guaranteed to finish. Once on Pac is rough based on how highly rated it is and how much I like it, too!

The buffet being gone sucks; I’m an early riser so I always liked to get up and get ready and go sit at breakfast and get into the day. Will see what the puffin is like for breakfast though.

honestly never did the buffet much, and we would have breakfast at Pacific half the time 'cause it was less crowded, they had different options, and it's basically on the way to the practice center.

Yeah wtf is going on in these videos and who's the little guy? So weird

the little guy is one of TM's 'global ambassadors (aka salesman)' Chris Trott. you can find him in vids with any and all of the TM pros.

i'm just so amused at watching these vids where Higgs is at Bandon, describing how he would play a certain shot from a particular lie, and subsequently being penalized for his lack of execution. props to TM for posting them anyway.

Tip #1: get the ball out of the bunker
Shot #1: dumps the ball into the same bunker

"with this lie, we're going to stay aggressive, drive it into the bank, probably going to run just past the hole but we've got a look at par." result? the ball doesn't make it to the green and comes halfway back to his feet

the overarching point is these vids are supposed to be TM wedge commercials...is there anything that you watched that would make you want to buy one?

Got to Bandon late Saturday night. Played trails and Bandon today in delightful light wind fall weather. Acquired all the gore Tex for tomorrow and Wednesday as it looks like it’s gonna get nasty. Old mac, Sheep Ranch tomorrow

i suggest taking the clubs out of your bag at night and opening everything up to help it dry.

Accuweather makes it seem like it won't be too horrible, but lots of goretex definitely a good idea.

Yeah definitely a good tip; bringing as little as possible with me today so less gets wet

It does look a bit better. I may have over reacted but wanted to get some really nice rain gear at some point so now I’m prepared.
