Over/under on number of people who be DQ'ed for the same thing if tape were reviewed from this entire week?

If the ruling were not applied it would have "sucked" on many more levels. He was just not thinking clearly, and should have confirmed it was not a bunker prior to grounding his club.

DJ's going to spend all week reviewing Kaymer and Bubba's every shot.

After hearing that interview with the PGA official, I don't feel bad for DJ at all.

So apparently the pga is allowing dozens of fans to stand in bunkers while golfers hit out of them??? This is absolutely ridiculous and anyone who agrees with the call has no soul.

A "bunker" is a hazard consisting of a prepared area of ground, often a hollow, from which turf or soil has been removed and replaced with sand or the like.

Grass-covered ground bordering or within a bunker, including a stacked turf face (whether grass-covered or earthen), is not part of the bunker. A wall or lip of the bunker not covered with grass is part of the bunker.
Isn't that what we just saw get ruled as being in a bunker?

this is very important, imo. it may not have been the officials responsibility to tell him its a bunker, but it sure as hell should be on them to get all the fans out of the bunker before he gets up to his ball. massive fail imo. had he had a clear view of the entire bunker it would have crossed his mind that it actually was a bunker.

Correct. This was applied after 2004 PGA after the Appleby incident. Keeps it simple because it is such an unusual course with 900+ bunkers. Avoids the Cink situation as well.

hard not to feel bad for him, he clearly blanked in the biggest moment of his golf career, I certainly could see myself doing the same thing

Please explain the negative of allowing Johnson into the playoff. If your answer is going to include phrases like "spirit of the game", then don't bother.

A lot of us know golf, unlike you, and to see a pos dirt area deemed a bunker in this situation is tilting. They robbed him.

Although I feel a little less bad for him after hearing about the signs posted in the locker room and the local rules sheet clarifying the possible bunker conditions outside the ropes. Still devastating.

His ball was clearly resting on sand. His club was grounded on sand, not on grass.

Extreme ball-washing from the CBS crew.

DJ isn't dumb, he just has a fast preshot routine, couldn't see the edge on the backside due to the crowd, and it cost him. The correct ruling was made but to say DJ is an idiot for not recognizing that as bunker is silly. Lots of unathletic armchair golfers itt acting like they'd have awareness of absolutely everything around them. The amount of focus DJ had on getting this ball up and down surely outtrumped his thought process on "oh hey i wonder if this dirty flat spot is a bunker".

The game is played by rules, not by TV ratings.

Is there a thread in SE yet?

he violated a rule which requires that he be assessed a two shot penalty? And rules are not selectively enforced?

Point out the rule which covers a bunker being a place where fans congregate

There have to be some objective standards for what is a bunker other than deeming it a bunker. And the PGA massively ****ed up letting crowds stand in a bunker.
