Like this f&cking liar.

***The 10 who talked were with Gagne on 11 of 13 holes-in-one (eliminating the three aces for which there is no record of her playing).

I talked to them in separate interviews, on different days, asking each only to describe the events as they saw them. All were delighted to have been part of such a serendipitous happening. Their stories had two more things in common:

No one suspected chicanery. And no one actually saw a hole-in-one.***

80 in 17 years is total bull ****. That or the old guys in the group ahead of him love running up his bar tab an put his ball in the hole on every blind par 3. That would actually be awesome. Hell I have holed out 1 shot this year outside of 75 yards, and that is probably for 75 or 100 rounds.

interesting, thx for posting.. i didn't read about the man but i did the woman... not sure if this is reasonable thinking, but they both don't look quite right - the man especially.

i would think to have a high number of holes in one you would need to play a course with short, easy par 3's and be a very good golfer. such that you are almost inside 15 feet on said par 3's...

this woman is clearly NOT that. it's bizarre she talks about her feel and ability to read greens but she even admits tons of her alleged holes-in-one were lucky bounces

it is bizarre that she got hole-in-one but hit second ball, scored a 4 and recorded that. some part of her felt guilty over her lying.

reminds me of 3 people i knew who lied,

one attention whoore woman said she had another hole in one every time i saw her (every 2 weeks or so). i doubt she could hit the ball 50 yards but admit i haven't seen her play.

two other guys both claimed to 4 or 5 handicaps. i played with one in orlando. he was lying 7 off first tee. giant diagonal pop-ups OB. fairly wide open course and hole. very bad..... the other is almost comical. took him 5 or 6 swings to get the ball 20 yards in total. i kid you not. by far the worst performance i have even seen... they both improved only moderately with the round. well the 2nd player improved alot but that's off a mind-boggling bad start.

I know a guy who owns a small Par 3 course and is a pretty solid golfer. I'd guess his HC around 4 and he says he has 12 HIO's. There are 2 or 3 holes on his course that are <100 yards. He has owned the course as long as I've know him (about 14 years) and I know he owned it for a long time before that for reference.

a good golfer who plays alot on easy par 3's could have lots of holes in one. and playing exclusively on par 3 or executive course just gives more opportunity. plus hitting multiple ball playing by self.

my only hole in one was practice round playing multiple balls. so i consider it a hole in one but not an official one i.e. if newspaper published holes in one i wouldn't submit it.... complete skull on easy hole. hard whack into flagstick and it dropped.

that woman is great. all those holes in one from admittedly bad shots on i'd presume 120 yard or less par 3's. and then she submits a score of 61... and SHE CHAIRS THE SCORING COMMITTEE at her club or, i guess she DID

apparently there is huge variance in pro golfer hole in ones. but i'd have to guess alot could be explained

i.e. number of home practice rounds times number of balls played.

whether you play the tips when you play with friends/sponsors/family/etc. or you drop down and hit from their tees.

gary player (eye roll... i know) or nick price said they hole fairway shots all the time. like once a week for awhile or something like that.

Honestly it isn't a surprise if random amateurs have more than pros, they are much more likely to just play endless rounds instead of grinding on the range. The 80 in 15 or however many years is a bit of an eye roll though.

My dad got one on a par 3 course, and I've always kinda felt like it shouldn't count.

I made one once on a 90 yard hole on a par 3 course. Was by myself just practicing and made it on about my 6th ball. I still count it.....

I don't believe hole in ones officially count on par 3 courses.

When I hit a ball from a tee to a green and the ball goes in the hole I count it.

***The rules also require that you hit the ball from the normal tee or a club-modified tee that is recognized by the USGA (United States Golf Association)***

Does the USGA recognize Par-3 courses?

seems like the answer is either "yes" or "they're about to" depending on when this was written:

Interesting. My guess is that they will move to allow holes-in-one under the whole 'inclusiveness' mantra.

Classic. Amazing all the attention and free stuff she got.

***In July, playing off a Handicap Index of more than 6 -- in March it was 10.1, in September 4.0 -- she reported shooting a course-record 66 at Eagle Falls Golf Course. She followed two weeks later with a 61.

The Eagle Falls pro, Robb Mihelic, doubts it: "We had just punched the greens, and I couldn't make a 10-foot putt that day. But she came right into the shop and said she'd shot 61." He asked her, "Did you play them down, or winter rules?"

"What's that?" she said to Mihelic.***

Confession time. Serious 2+2 stuff. I was so bothered after reading the article that I located her email address. I felt bad after doing it and apologized. This is from 10 years ago!

I felt like too much of a jerk. Internet lynch mob.

Looking back, Peter Kostis deserved much of the blame. He validated by saying she was the real deal and he believes her.

I don’t know what is more unbelievable after taking up golf at age 42, by age 47:

1) The 27 or whatever hole in ones.
2) A 6-handicap shooting 11-under par on punched greens.

Like an AMA? Or who am I?

Like why did I start my own personal lynch mob against a 46-year old fraudster after reading an article in a magazine and end up getting invited to play golf with her in Palm Springs?
