Brady Schnell shot a 59(par 72) during the second round of a PGA Tour Canada event in Calgary yesterday.

29-30. 11 birdies and one eagle. Played the back nine first, holed out from 122-yards on his 18th hole to finish the round.

Going by my Yahoo! fantasy season, so far this year 10 out of 30 events have been played on par 70 courses. So far the venues have been fairly evenly divided between par 70, 71, and 72 courses, with a 73 (Kapalua) thrown in for good measure.

The par 70 courses that the PGA Tour plays typically feature converted par 5s and/or 500+ yard par 4s, so it doesn't do much to tarnish the mystique of a 59 in my eyes.

If the tour played on courses where par was less than 70, then I think we could have a conversation about shooting 59 on them. Until that happens it seems irrelevant.

Fair enough, Brocktoon. I think the problem I have is that I am comparing a "59" to my first 79. I remember when I first broke 80. It was a 79 on par 70 course. I got congrats from my buddies but it wasn't until (2 months later!!) I shot a 78 on a par 72 course that I felt like I truly "broke 80".

Millions of guys have broken 80, so who cares. 59 is so rare I guess I shouldn't really care what the par is between 70 and 72.

par 72 and unfortunately the 12th was the last par 5 (and he parred it).... but still has good chance i'd think....

extremely impressive as there are really only 2 other noteworthy (minus 5 or minus 6) scores today... alot of the completed rounds are a just a little under par.

minus 11 thru 14. 3 pars in a row..... so 2 birdies needed in last 4 holes for 59...

Doug Dunakey 3-putted 18 to shoot 59 on the web.com tour some years back, don't feel like looking up what par was.
