Was just coming to post this... needs to play #17 and #18 in a combined -1 to shoot a 59. Tee shot on #17 is in the fairway (90 yards from the hole). #18 is a par 5.
i'm assuming he could have legit shot 56 or 57........
would love to see if anyone has ever had a better start......... what is the 9 hole record? have to check the par though
i've caddied quite a bit mini-tour and canadian tour.... seems like high scores is wild driving. and confidence-wise it gets down to wild 3-iron driving even when you are trying to play conservatively... low scores = putting...... bad and good luck plays a role too. and of course bad/good luck affects you mentally so i think it reinforces your general play good or bad.......... my high/low score being driving vs. putting doesn't work for higher handicappers. all kinds of other shots come into it. someone shooting 59 probably isn't chipping/pitching or hitting out of deep rough too often
i have see pga pros shoot 56 or something like that on par 70, 6000 yard local course..... but the 59/60 yesterday was listed 7,300 yards at (i presume) sea level and high humidity (they say humidity enhances distance. but i don't think a golf drive would go very far in a steam bath... i must be missing something)
