Looks like 58 is lowest for recognized competitive tourney > 6500 yards

55 for friendly round on course 6750 yards

I remember Shigeki Maruyama shot 58 in US Open sectional qualifying several years ago. And I thought there was a 58 shot on the Japanese tour since then.

Not sure about the length of those courses or whether preferred lies were used.

yup.......... the 2 rounds of 58 that are accepted as world competitive records are 1) japanese tour; 2) japanese player at US Open qualifying..

jason bohn's 58 on canadian tour was on a course just under 6500 yards - the distance minimum.

one of the 2 golf magazines a few years ago had an article that 58 on pga tour is inevitable (palm springs, deere etc.)........ i think 59 or maybe even 60 hasn't happened since its publication.

the site i saw referencing the world record said there are so many 56's and 57's shot that they don't track it any longer....... i know of a lot of local players who have broken 60 - sometimes by 2 or 3 strokes - on 6300+ yard courses

Jhonnie Vegas is -9 thru 11. Front nine 28.

Front 9 consisted of 2 eagles, one being an Ace on 17 had a stretch of 6 holes with 4 birdies and 2 eagles

how many of the older 59's on tour were par 72? i don't actually know i.e. real question... then we had a bunch probably 6 to 10 years ago. and then slowed down again.

spenda, btw, thx.. i hadn't seen this.

not sure of very recent weather but i would have thought hayward california would be 1) too dry; 2) too windy for a score like that.

an vague of mine had the course record at stonebrae from web.com event. it was 61 i think. dustin risdon... wasn't nearly as dry back then

i loved when he made his putt for 59 that the cows in the background could have cared less... or maybe no one told them

Furyk with a front 9 27 on a par 70.

^ Came here to post the above; you beat me to it. -8 thru 9 on a par 70 with a par-5 left to play. Round should be done quickly enough that the 5-hour energy doesn't wear off.

Just woke up. Birdies 10 and 11. Needs just -1 on final 7 for a ho- hum 59. Could be something really spectacular here.

Another ****ing birdie. Even par from here is a 59. Still has a reachable par 5 left.

Tough in placement on #13, but reachable. 2nd easiest hole on the course.
