#3002 post actually. Late to the punch is typically my life story.

Been hearing a lot on T.V. lately that lining up the line on the golf ball with your line while setting up your putt should be looked at as a rule change, and after listening to commentator's it seems like not many pros line up the line on the ball,(no idea if thats true or not)

I'm only asking because I thought I was a good putter now I've been sucking..may need a change, but when I was good my preshot was to line it up and just hit that line straight thru after I picked my line.

So do the best putters on tour not use the line?

I'm only a weekend player, and always will be but I am naturally athletic I feel and have a good feel for balls (yep I said it)..anyway, I'm pretty head oriented in the game of golf and I concentrate too much probably and overthink it too much, which probably takes away from instincts and just having a good flow and naturally letting yourself feel it.

What I'm trying to say is there's times I line up a long putt and hit it exactly where I want and also plenty of times I don't give a **** and give it a slight glance and drain a perfectly sped 40 footer.

Is there a prefered way? b/c currently I squat like Camillo Vejayyus and get a mud spot on my knee every round, get called Camillo..and miss easy putts, last year I was a ringer in outings bc everything 10 ft and in was straight, bc I lined up my putt. But right now (it is winter and the grass is basically dead) I still can't make ****, or putt straight. But I made a 30 footer while barely looking at a hole the other day.
Sorry for rambling but I really am curious if lining up a putt is even +EV when you aren't sure if you're even putting perfectly straight.
