Answer:

Spoiler:
The answer is Scott Hoch. You probably couldn't think of a less inspired choice, aside from the fact that he was the defending champion. I don't think there was any tradition of the champ always getting paired with Hope, but I'm not 100% sure of that. But certainly they could have found a warmer personality if they wanted to.

chad campbell, who is tied for the lead, went triple bogey and eagle back to back.

hadwin has a par 5 in hand on much of the field though

Scott Hoch was a raging douche to me back when I used to volunteer at Phoenix Open. It was a toss up between him and Vijay for the biggest ******* in the field.

I've heard tons of people say Hoch is a jerk, so I believe its true. But for me my first experience at a PGA Tour event was a junior clinic on a Wednesday before Bay Hill with Hoch and Faxon. He seemed like a cool guy and I always liked him since then.

I still hate Hoch for missing the 2 footer to win the Masters allowing Faldo to win his first major. John Cook later did the same at the British allowing Faldo to win another. To give Hoch credit he was an amazing iron player with uncanny accuracy when he was on.

Tiger, DJ, and JDay. 1040 PST on Torrey Pines South. Weather looking good, course will still be fairly wet and rough should be a challenge.

Vijay is the biggest because he cheats and because of DEER ANTLER SPRAY.

Playing the ball up today (and presumably tomorrow for fairness). I read that despite the recent renovation on the north course, the drainage is still bad and those fairways are too wet. South should have it better, but still, big premium for driving in the fairway.

Tiger using TM irons as well? Either way not sure he's hit a good shot yet following along on the tracker.

No he is still using NIKE clubs. Here is a decent article about it.

How does he make this look so routine? At age 46 no less.

Zac Blair looks like he's using a bullseye. Nice, been years since I've seen one on tour.

Yep, missing everything. Not sure what we should have been expecting. Been quite a while.

And all three of them missed the cut.
