The new season is already under way so its time for a new thread.

Here's my take on how everyone is going to play this year:

The 2016 POY won the US Open despite the USGA trying to screw him over an mess with his head. That's the benefit of destroying all of the brain cells that cause nerves. Look for him to continue to play great and get another major in 2017. I know I'm looking forward to seeing Paulina's ass every time he collects a trophy.

Rory came on strong at the end of 2016 winning the Fed Ex Cup. No one actually cares about the Fed Ex Cup, but winning it is better than not winning it. 2017 is the year he claims his first Masters. Willet won't be happy to no longer be the reigning champion, but he will take solace in the fact that he won't have to put a jacket on an American.

The current number 1 player in the world is going to have a tough year. Just too hard a swing and too many injuries to keep it up. Its a shame because of how much talent he has, but I think its all downhill from here.

After an historic 2015 Spieth had what seemed like an off year in 2016 but was actually pretty damned good. I don't think he'll have another season like 2015, but look for him to get a couple wins in 2017 and maybe bink another major. The Masters blow up was bad, but there isn't going to be lasting damage. The real question is whether this is the year he loses what's left of his hair.

High off his Ryder Cup performance, Patrick Reed will finally get to top 5 in the world.

I'm struggling with this one. Justin notched his first win, but some people are still looking for him to be one of the best in the world. I don't know what is going to happen, but I think this is the year we find out whether he is going to become Jordan Spieth or Charles Howell III.

Bubba will continue to be a whiny bitch. Next.

This will be the breakout year for Berger. 2 wins coming his way.

I don't know why this guy is holding a propeller, and there is no way I can spell his name. He's a 3 time All American and former #1 amateur in the world. Ollie S is going to have a huge year and take a lot of people by surprise. He's my sleeper pick for 2017.

He won't win anything, but Phil will make a lot of money, hit a lot of shots out of concession areas and porta-potties, and will get picked for the President's Cup. There will also be no shortage of lol Phil moments as usual.

Who knows if Tiger will even tee it up this year. Is he still injured? Does he have the chipping yips? Has he lost his motivation? At this point I'm not even sure I still care.

Anyone watching the CIMB? Anahiri made a 9 on the 3rd hole and JT birdied 3 out of the first 4, now has a 2 shot lead.

what happened? i just assumed that Anahiri was medicore and JT was red-hot.

i checked but this tourney doesn't seem to have an interactive scorecard where you can see what happened each hole.

water troubles?

Guy with a 9 is called Anirban Lahiri. I guess the name quoted is a nick.

This leaderboard shows individual hole scores for me when you click on the player, but as you say, not the interactive shots.

Pretty funny front 9 - he made birdie eagle bogey after the quad!

OK - found a link to explain it. http://www.golfdigest.com/story/anir...-justin-thomas

Something else must have happened too I guess to account for 2-3 more shots, depending on if he went back to the tee or played the ball under penalty if it had been identified up the tree.

He made the 9 right before coverage started, but I believe he lost one in a tree and then bladed a pitch way over the green.

^^^and the tournament didn't pay out the cadillac prize as they insured it for shots 200y+ and the teeing ground was damaged so they moved it up to 193. The players were informed before but lol just pay the 60k car out so you don't have articles that point out that a hio happened and there is no pay out. Seems silly to me. $60k car or so. One hio a year at the tournament maybe. You're already spending millions putting on a tournament - trivial extra cost if there is an ace.

If hideki wins in the middle of the night in the US and no is around to watch it does it count?

Done well with hideki in the dfs and Wagering this fall. So it's fine that he stays off the radar by being non-English speaking and winning abroad.

****ing hell, I had no idea Rod Pampling was still playing.

So the field was supposed to be 132 but they let in 144 due to a "clerical error". That's the only reason Pampling even got in the field. I guess when you're running good you're running good.

Yeah, las vegas came later in the schedule this year, the past few years it was held in October when there was more daylight. Correct decision to trim the field to 132, as they were nowhere close to finishing round 1 or 2 on time; both finished the following morning. Tour HQ screwed up and accepted the entries of the extra players, and not noticed until it was unfair to "fix" it, to Pampling's benefit.

In other news,

This could be fun. Will wait to see some details.

Saw a pretty interesting thread on GolfWrx about Hunter Mahan... missed another cut this week and is down below #300 in the OWGR. Guy was one of the steadiest players on tour for years, ranked as high as #4 in the world I believe.

Appears he just lost his swing. His ball-striking stats are atrocious across the board. I wonder if he can make it back like Stenson did, or if he will be more like Duval and just fade away. I was a fan of his, it's too bad.

It's really weird for someone that good to just lose it like that. I wonder if he's had some injuries or something?

Don't think so. He and his wife had a bunch of kids quickly (they have 3 under 3yo, I think). Perhaps that was a big part of it - the focus is elsewhere now.

The guy won over $30 mil on tour so not crying for him, but he seems really lost right now. Can't even make a cut in weak-field events.

He was hurt last year but has been a pretty solid cut-maker on tour for a while now.

It's not golf related, it's lifestyle related. As dictated by his ex Dallas Cowboy cheerleader wife from what I'm told.

Hunter Mahan's a pretty homely looking guy, and I'm sure he's happy to be plowing a cheerleader, but couldn't a guy with his status on tour still pick and choose where he wants to put his shaft? Is she really that much better than an unknown small town 9?

Also, women are so strange.. They want a guy that is successful, and then when they want to commit time to their trade, the woman gets mad because the dude is never around.

If they have 3 really small kids and he's already made $30M it doesn't seem unreasonable for her to want him to be around a little more. I have no idea what their relationship is like but hopefully he views his wife as more than a trophy.
