Yea today didn't go as I had hoped. Hot and windy afternoon and I just wore down after being even through 10. Really drove the ball well but it's a tough track. Shooting 6-under out there seems miles away from my game. I was always just hoping to make the cut but my last three holes erased nearly all hope.

Fun day for me considering it was my first competitive round in nearly 21 months. Parred the first 9 holes and made a nice birdie on 10. I was between clubs on 11 and made the wrong selection trying to get too cute. Bad bogey.

Then on 12 I had 109 and booked a flighty 52* for deuce! Yay.

Bad mental process on 13 led to a shoved drive in the water and played solid in from there for a 69. T-7 through first round.

I played with the lead who shot -6 and it was interesting. He's a good player for sure, but had pretty poor touch on his putts. He ran a 30' putt 12' by on first hole but made it coming back. After that he made three pretty lengthy putts that would have been 6-8' past the hole for sure. He did a nice job of easing through the round, but I'm a little suspect of his putting as the greens just keep getting faster over the next two days.

With the event shortened to 54 gonna be a sprint. Need to get hot for 36 holes.

It would be really cool to somehow play great and win after caddying for the win last year.
This guy knows his golf, dude followed his 65 with a 75

Is this where I brag about needing 3.5 strokes against a crippled old man to push a bet for the week?

I'll be out there tomorrow for the last couple hours if anyone else is showing up PM me.

Apparently.

What a beating. Watching Chambers Bay that is, not the state am.

I'll update Monday, that was just a long beating today. On the clock last 12 holes and couldn't get settled at all as the round progressed.

Lame.

Curious--were you on the clock due to your slower play or your playing partners? I imagine it would be even more frustrating if it was not your fault.

GLGL today. Amazing job so far!

It was largely the high school kid we were playing with. I was being s tad deliberate, but that was because I was actually giving a playing lesson to my caddy while playing in the event. Once we were behind I stopped going over every shot in detail with him and it caught up to me.

Overall I played 27 good holes and 27 bad holes. Everything was pretty bad the last day and a half. That's to be expected to an extent since I haven't played at all. To be honest, the last 27 is likely more indicative of my game than the first 27. Whatever.

But, the kid that won. Holy cow. Bogeyed 4 of first 8 today then played last 10 -8. Wow.

The guy that finished 2ns had a SMU player caddie for him. That kid told me after the round that he used my strategy system for every shot the kid hit and that it was amazing to watch in action as a caddy. Really cool to see the excitement in his eyes talking about how easy it looked.

I'll write more tomorrow, time for Father's Day stuff now.

My TR is less exciting. Some positives I can take from the event:

1. Very good speed on greens
2. 6 birdies in 2 rounds without a par 5 birdie
3. Hit 24 of 36 greens

I made about five mistakes and those resulted in a total of 11 lost shots. That's very unlike me and the strength of my game (accuracy from 175-225) severely let me down this week.

Here are my four doubles and one triple.

Hole 14 (5th hole of round) - chunked five iron in water on par 3. Was never comfortable and right hand was sweaty but didn't back off and dry my hands. Hit a poorly thought out 100 yard wedge to 25 feet and two putted.

Hole 5 (14th hole) - long downwind par 3 should have just hit five iron in the middle of the green instead I force four iron, pull hook it down a short sided slope and take four to get down.

Hole 7 (16th hole) - weird dogleg right and I pull driver OOB

Hole 3 (21st hole) - four iron lay up is mis hit and left into rough. Ball ends up in old deep divot and instead of chipping back into fairway I try to manufacture a 7 iron from 140 and my club can't even get near the equator of the ball. Don't focus on 20 footer for bogey and then miss 6 footer.

Hole 6 (24th hole) - have four iron in and just put another awful swing on a long iron pulling it into the water.

After that I hit 11 of last 12 greens and my miss was a foot short getting cute with a 50 yard pitch on a par 5 that I then three putt. Played those holes two under but still missed cut by a handful.

Other pros:

Well run event
Bent Tree greens were perfect
Got some nice tourney swag
Played with some really good and nice/polite college kids
Shook out some tourney nerves for my next few events this summer

Ship I see your horse out at the us am this week. You on the bag? That Olympia fields tracks a helluva lot of fun. If you game planned it I might have a few questions on your approach to a few of the more interesting holes.

I am here caddying. He actually played great yesterday. He is T30, but that isn't really indicative of his round. He in in 9th of the 156 that played the North Course yesterday, and there were only two rounds from the afternoon on his course that were better than his.

The greens were getting pretty chewed up for our last nine, we were second to last off.

Overall it's a great course, LDO. There is an hour and a half delay due to heavy rains last night. I don't think it will be possible to get the round finished today so cut won't come until tomorrow for matchplay.

Fire away with questions on the holes, I did quite a bit of work on this course before we got here and it basically played exactly as I expected. It is VERY soft from rains though. I don't think that will change over the course of the week. Rough is pretty bad in spots but overall I would say it's nothing crazy for the better players in the field.

It's the final event before Walker Cup selections so there is a ton of pressure on about 5-7 kids who are looking to get the last 3 spots. Will was a virtual lock before the appendectomy. I talked with Spider (the Walker Cup captain) yesterday for a little while and it's pretty clear he wanted Will on the team, but missing most of the summer put him in a bad spot. I think if Will makes it to the semi's and none of the other guys in the hunt for a spot go further he has a chance to make it. I think he will be picked if he makes the Finals.

I caddied for him 2 weeks ago at the Pacific Coast Am and he had the lead through 54 with Bryson DeChambeau. We played the final round with Maverick McNealy and Bryson and Will struggled with the putter to shoot 72 and finish 4th. That was a good event though as he really played poorly in his first two events back after nearly two months off with due to the surgery.

This brings my total rounds caddied for him to 26 and he has shot over par twice. One of those was in his PGA Tour debut at Riviera and the other was final round at Pac Coast where he had 36 putts. That really shows the power of the mind and proper strategy in the game. It's something the kids today lack more than past generations I believe. Yes the game takes a long time to learn to play correctly, but the heavy emphasis on mechanics has lost the art of playing the game IMO.

I'll try to post round reports of the matchplay.

Looks like a +1 71 today and tied 38th with plenty of guys still on the course. I imagine it's good enough for top 64 - but time will tell.
