Uh oh, big problem. Will was puking all day yesterday but he gets sick all the time so I wasn't concerned. I just got a text (6:30 a.m. local time) from his dad that they have been at the ER for a few hours. Looks like he might have to get his appendix out. If so he's out a month!

That obviously kills this week, but his summer is stacked. June consists of U.S. Open sectionals, British Am, and a web.com event in Wichita.

I hope he doesn't have to skip all of those, would crush him.

I didn't touch a club for 7 months while letting my elbows heal. I wasn't going to play our club championship since I'm not ready and elbows still hurt a bit. However, since the State Am is at my course we have 3 exemptions into the event. So I played purely with the goal of shooting a couple 75's and getting one of those spots.

Played a beyond conservative strategy and shot 73-72, lol. I literally aimed at the middle of every green, took the safest route out of any tree situation, tried to two putt everything.

Golf is actually a very easy game when played correctly.

Now I get to have Spenda run me over on my home course. Sweet.

Hope it isn't his appendix. I'll be at the BN Friday, was hoping to fist bump you at some point.

Surgery went well. Was able to keep it laparoscopic so might just be out a month.

Glad things went well. Teammate went through the same thing in college, he wasn't down too long.

I'm available to take his place this week if need be.....

Well, at least it happened now and not when trying to make the cut at his first major. Wishing WillZ a quick recovery.

I'm not a doctor, but I did have this procedure a few years ago. The first 3-4 days, you walk around like a hunchback feeling like you got punched in the gut. But I'm pretty sure I could have swung a club after 7-10 days. He won't have his A+ game, especially since it sounds like his strength is as a lanky, flexible ball striker where his abs would play a crucial role. But I'd be surprised if he's not at 90% within a few weeks.

Hopefully it's a quick recovery, and it'll make for a good story when he's in the hunt at the Nelson next year.

He's doing great so far. Chipped some and putted today. I'm on him as much as possible to take it slow.

Side happy note, here's a preview of this years state am that Spenda and I will be duking it out in. He's going to say it's not fair since it's my home course. To which I say it's no fair he actually plays golf.

A couple rebuttals

No one has played golf in Dallas lately

You keep dodging me on playing practice rounds, you're trying to win this thing and I'll be pumped just to make the cut.

Ship - will you comment on what you saw bubba do in LA? Looks like everyone else is going on the record.

First round already postponed to Friday but I don't see that happening either. Crazy weather today.

Yeah it is pretty crazy, sucks to loose like a month of golf when the weather is a reasonable temperature, going to be 103 everyday by the time the courses dry out.

Shortened to 54 holes with cut after Saturday's 2nd round.

Had a cool players banquet tonight, Bent Tree is a very nice place.

Landed a super equity heavy $80:$200 low score bet against Ship, let's gogogogo!!

Good start so far. Spenda and I reworked our bet after I took a commanding lead today. Now he's $20the main $80) and I'm giving him 3.5 tomorrow.

Fun day for me considering it was my first competitive round in nearly 21 months. Parred the first 9 holes and made a nice birdie on 10. I was between clubs on 11 and made the wrong selection trying to get too cute. Bad bogey.

Then on 12 I had 109 and booked a flighty 52* for deuce! Yay.

Bad mental process on 13 led to a shoved drive in the water and played solid in from there for a 69. T-7 through first round.

I played with the lead who shot -6 and it was interesting. He's a good player for sure, but had pretty poor touch on his putts. He ran a 30' putt 12' by on first hole but made it coming back. After that he made three pretty lengthy putts that would have been 6-8' past the hole for sure. He did a nice job of easing through the round, but I'm a little suspect of his putting as the greens just keep getting faster over the next two days.

With the event shortened to 54 gonna be a sprint. Need to get hot for 36 holes.

It would be really cool to somehow play great and win after caddying for the win last year.
