Tough break today, just ran into a kid who had it going. Looks like Olsen was -5 thru 15 without a single bogey on the card. Just one of those matches where there isnt much you can do.

Great run though and the kid definitely has a very bright future in this sport. Awesome Summer and he definitely should be proud of his accomplishments this year

That's just hard to beat, especially on a tough course.

Nice run guys. Pretty impressive stuff over the past month or so from you two. I'm sure Will learned a ton from you, ship. Thanks for giving us a sweat!

Buzz. Saw. Ed.

He fought, hit a great 52 from 140 on 11 to 4' but brutally fast. Pulled it and caught low lip and missed 4' coming back. Four feet to get to one down and walk off three down. Shart.

Soul crusher.

Kid he played was basically flawless for 15 holes. Maybe if he could have out a little heat on him it could have been better, but I think that kid was unbeatable today. Really solid stuff.

Stings now, but great experience overall. What can you do.

Great few weeks though. I'm sure the kid has more in him.

Olsen is tough. I played with him 2-3 times this year in college. He's solid tee to green and a great putter. Tough draw today, that's just part of the US Am sometimes though. Nice run ship, nothing to be disappointed about making 16s.

Ship- what happened on 11? I saw will stick it real close, walked off then heard he lost the hole. Great run by you two.

Nevermind. I didn't see what you wrote earlier. That sucks.

Ship, you should have congratulated Zach with a handshake. That way tomorrow, when he's messed up, he could have said "I can't believe I shook his friggin' hand".

BO

(it was pretty funny how Zach recoiled when ship didn't shake!)

gotta say congrats to Will and Ship!
would have been fantastic to sweat Will through the finals like we did last year for stadler (and speaking of that, glad to see you post today stads), but this experience can only be good for Will moving forward.
i'll be following his collegiate career and looking forward to see what he brings in the future.

Will
ship

*edit to say i appreciate stadler's undertitle is 'grinder', i know that's the 2+2 default for his post count, but it's probably more than appropriate right now.

Yeah, and Cameron Young the high school senior to be is a Wake commit. Good stuff coming from them.

Of all the kids I’ve seen along this little two month run he was by far the most impressive in my opinion. Obviously I understand I saw him on an above normal day, but his swing and putting stroke seemed very solid. He did make a few strategic errors IMO on 8 and 11 hitting driver where there really wasn’t any room, but he’ll figure that out….or OSU will hire me to teach them.

There is just enough pitch to the greens that if you get above the hole in certain areas it is almost impossible. The 4’ putt Will had on 11 was a great example. He really needed to simply touch that ball and trust the line would be right. He gunned it a tad and had longer coming back.

It’s funny, had you told us in June he would finish 3rd in Stroke play at The Am and lose in the round of 16 we would have been pretty pleased. It just really felt like he was going to roll again this week as the week progressed. He just didn’t have it Thursday afternoon and I felt so ****ty and cloudy headed I couldn’t find the right words to get him in gear like I could at the Junior.

#4 was pretty bad on my part too. It was 173 to carry the water and 183 stick. He hit 7 iron in the morning and it landed hole high and released to 40’ coming back. It really was all you could hope for. When we got 2 down through 3 he walked onto the tee and said he really felt it was an 8 and I challenged that for a second but he was adamant. I knew that it would take a perfect 8 and that it was a 60-70% chance he’d carry it and be right. Even still though he likely has 10-20’ and that’s just not worth the risk. I should have pushed back harder and taken the time to get him to accept the 7 iron and 20-40’ result.

He carried the water by a foot and it hoped back in the lake to go 3 down through 4. He did hit it to 2’ on next hole from 100 and made a 15’ on 6 so it didn’t affect his mind, but it definitely gave a hole away needlessly. You just can’t afford that at that level.

Oh well, we both learned a little for down the road.

I think he’ll get a spot in the Byron Nelson since they gave one to Speith and Scheffler when they won the Junior. I hope so, I’d love to caddie in that.

I’ll post more of the stats this week when I have more time.

I'm deeming Tuesday the official harass the caddy day!

By the way, noticed on 14 that you picked up Will's ball and tossed it to him. Hope he doesn't get the mess.

Nice run for Will.
Was nice to see a local kid that I've had the chance to play with at his club (Grand Del Mar) win it.
