well, since I was sick I haven't even seen the Highlands so I don't know. It played half a shot harder today based on scoring so I guess that's a good number. The course we played is not your typical easier companion course, it's a solid course.

trying to figure out how some of these people qualify for the US AM and drop 85-87....I mean I assume they had to shoot some low scores at some point but 15-20 shots worse just cuz of the pressure??? that's a huge derail

good luck today ship

Happens every year. Not necessarily just nerves though for sure that can account.

Courses can be really hard and long and may not compare to the course the qualifying occurred on. For example, a guy could play a 6600 course in sectionals and then get there to Atlanta and the course may be playing 7400 yards (haven't looked at actual yardage). So there are a lot of guys that could potentially shoot 140 or better in qualifying and perhaps on the 7400 yard course he may have a hard time breaking 80. Greens/pin positions may often be much much tougher too.

Add in loss of swing or putter in the month since qualifying and its just not hard to imagine a round spinning out of control with no ability to get back on track.

yeah I know I know, just seems pretty wild to actually qualify for US AM and drop those type of scores. Makes me want to take a run at qualifying even though I'm only about a 1-2 handicap so I would likely get smoked.

A handful of 1's will qualify and many will shoot in the 80's on a USGA setup, just the way it works. And since the USGA doesn't allow beer and weed during play, you might shoot 100!

Done at -5 and currently T2, all that matters is making match play. I'd bet dollars to donuts that ship steered him middle of the green the entire back nine if not earlier seeing as how he birdied the two par 5's and parred the rest. Probably two-putted every hole!

looking just below the cut line (above is +2, below +3), Maverick McNealy played the first round -1, was even for the tourney going into the par 5 18th, and took an 8 to miss the number by one.

I saw him play some of this hole and I'm still scratching my head on how he made an 8. For those that know the hole, he hit his drive left in the water, 3rd into the left green side bunker, 4th fat but out on the fringe about 40 feet above the hole. I walked off at this point, having no idea where he stood in the tourny. He probably thought he needed to get up and down to make it as it looked like +1 would be the cut at that time (about 1:15). Guess he took 4 from there.

What a day. No time for much as I'm smoked. For starters we had a legit fire in our hotel last night. Spent 2.5 hours in parking lot starting at 1:00. While out there I started getting blisters on my hands to confirm what was wrong with me Saturday and Sunday...hand foot and mouth disease from my 1 year old. Hands and feet are in bad shape with blisters and sore skin. Awesome, let's walk a ton of golf!

Will played good today but hit it in too many fairway bunkers. He hit great approach shots from there each time but it was a tad stressful. Overall gained .38driving and gained .34 putting.

Definitely a tough first round draw for a 3 seed but whatever. Kid he's playing had 7 birdies, 6 bogeys and 5 pars today. Crazy. We go at 11:50 and it's on the golf channel...not sure the time though.

If he plays like he has been he can make a deep run barring crazy match play stuff

Gogogogogo!

GL!

As a Brit I'm going to have to cheer for Jimmy Mullen too - I hope you are in opposite sides of the draw and both make the final!.

I see Sam Horsfield is up there too, so I hope he gets into the last 4 also.

Add Paul Howard to the semi-finals and we are gold!
