i know a ton of people on here know elite golfers or have seen these guys play a bunch of times.

today monday june 3rd is the day....

http://www.usopen.com/en_US/news/qua...sectional.html

http://espn.go.com/golf/usopen13/sto...ying-live-blog

memphis and columbus are the two big qualifying spots. 9 and 15 spots respectively. obviously a ton of tour guys out at those spots.

i'm watching washington state. a few guys i've seen play a bunch of times. pretty high scores there.

golfing gods are brutal. a guy from bc (james allenby) shot the lowest score by far at any local qualifying (61.... next best anywhere was 65 or 66) and today he's way over par.

anyway, good fun click on all the different sectional fields.......... spieth leading one. jerry kelly picked as a dangerous guy in another for the us open itself. david duval is trying to qualify. last year a couple of qualifiers made a ton of noise at the open.

For somebody who has never really followed this before:

Do you get to pick your Sectional site, or do you get placed in one based on what Local qualifier you play in?

i don't know......... but i'd assume if you start in washington state, you'd be doing its sectional.............. not sure about it. and then of course there may be special circumstances they consider.

on pga tour qualifying the guy that i follow the most just missed doing well enough in stage 1 to pick his stage 2 site and it definitely hurt him in stage 2. not sure he would have made it thru to stage 3 at his favoured site but it didn't help.

When you register you rank your preferences for both Local and Sectional sites available, and then the USGA places you based on that rank.

Also, my club's pro shot 2 over for first 18. Done. Unless he shoots like 62 in second round.

I know it was posted in another thread but some guy got his clubs lost on the plane and had to scrounge up a set of clubs with like 4 different brands and shot a 65 (-7) I think they said. Pretty GOAT story if he makes it. The wedges were non-conforming so they had to replace those.

Could see him telling his grandkids someday "I qualified for the Open and I had to use someone else's clubs!" "No you didn't grandpa stop teasing us!"

to a certain degree i'd assume he needs super comfort with driver and putter esp.

amazing feat though

Only two of the qualifying sites allow Steel Spikes. Why the PGA hasn't just banned them all together is beyond me.

i am now completely confused as to what 6* means... might have one 3some mislabelled at one site as they seem completely different than any other threesome on that course right now

i thought it was how many holes you've completed. but it could be what hole you are on... either one would make sense if you were setting a standard. and then the asterisk makes you adjust.

6* means he is through his 6th hole. He started o the back

That was me. I sliced my drive like 100 yards oob then skulled my 2 iron. Took 2 shots to get out of greenside bunker then chip + 2 putts, and never looked back. I don't know how they let me in with my 27 handicap.

US Open winners get a 10 year exemption, which surprised me
