A+ to Fox on their coverage. i missed most of their debut last year b/c i was living in Euroland. i'd be fine w/ Fox having the rights to all 4 majors and the Ryder Cup.

Definite +1 to the fox coverage.

Anyone go out there this week? Didn't seem too crowded over the first 3 days. Appears more people out for Sunday though. Should be a fun finish in the wind.

Is it super expensive to provide these tracers on every shot like fox does? Makes watching ao much better. Wonder why they dont have this every week. I know they have it on some tee shots but need more

it's a good point. the PGA Tour should buy all the necessary equipment and lend it to broadcasters each week for regular Tour events. the viewing experience skyrockets w/ it.

i haven't seen much of the launch angle, clubhead speed, ball speed stats today for some reason.

the TrackMan 4 (the one that can be used outside) goes for just under $25k btw.

Nice win by Brooks, played brilliantly today. Lifeless guy, though.

Brook?

Lowest score to pater in Open history. Epic. Will he ever win again is the question. Time will tell.

Justin Thomas followed up his historic 63 with a 75.

Matsuyama was on the clock most of the day. I'm sure that screwed with his mind. The guy is slower than molassas.

The young lefty faded.

Kopeke left no doors open. What a win. How bout his hot girlfriend too. What a dime piece.

Phil was better off at his daughters graduation. No way he would have had any chance.

Erin hills will be a good host to a PGA championship. That's what the course felt like.

They should probably bring in the fairways a little bit though next time it hosts something... they're just too wide. Don't need the first cut to be super thick, but it was just really easy for these guys to throw darts into tight pins off ridiculously perfect fairway lies.

Re: The 117th United States Golfing Open - Erin Hills

I said early in the week I didn't mind the low scores, and I still don't (though I think with average winds the winning score ends up around -8 or so, which I don't think bothers anyone).

The one thing I disliked about the course is that it seemed like a lot of the holes have backstops where you can either hit it five yards short and roll out to pin high, hit it pin high with some spin and end up pin high, or hit it 10 yards long and end up pin high -- which sort of makes things too easy for players at this level (it's probably good for lower level players who are hitting 5 iron in from 180-190 with no backspin).

It's all pin positioning. You'd shoot a 115 out there. Stop.

Re: The 117th United States Golfing Open - Erin Hills

I liked Nobilo and Chamblee's assessment of the low scoring.

Golf is the only sport that likes to base scoring on nostalgia and the old days. It's in fact pretty naive and semi stupid.

The players are stronger
The players are better
The clubs are better
The balls are better

Tiger shattered most of the old records anyway.

The USGA got exactly what they wanted..a pretty good golf tournament. Erin Hills is a very very difficult track. From the distance they played it it's impossible for the average hack......it's hard for a 6 index as well.

I don't see what relevance that has.

It's not being judged on nostalgia and historic records - it's being judged on the US Open being supposed to be the toughest tournament of the year. The only relevant history for that is this year.

U.S. Open Golf final round viewing down 43% vs last open played on West Coast

This isn't a good sign.

Depends upon your point of view. I think it is a great sign of what a poor product they put out this year. Hopefully, they will learn from it.

There better be 15-yard fairways and fescue you can hide an elephant in next year. Also I want a few windmills and rocketships on the putting greens.

Nothing to do with the course. Rickie was the only name guy on the entire leaderboard.

Koepka, Harmon, Schauffele, don't really get the casual golf fan excited.

Even bigger name guys like JT and Matsuyama are not exactly oozing charisma.

Pro sports are star-driven. Hence Tiger and Phil still the most popular after all these years. Most of today's pros are machine like and dull dull dull.

True but I'd be pretty surprised if the tournament would have gotten much bigger ratings, even with Rory DJ and Day still in the field. Those are the 3 top players, and yet Phil is still a far bigger fan draw than any of them.

Rickie and Rory are the only 2 younger guys who even register, the PGA tour as a whole is made up of incredibly bland and uninteresting players. I am not knocking them personally - they might be very nice guys off the course. But I sure don't see the next Tiger or Phil out there anywhere, to get non-golf fanatics into watching golf.

Pro sports are personality-driven and the PGA has a severe personality deficit atm.

That Article is talking about the 2015 US Open ratings being down from the 2012 US Open which is surprising since 2015 was Spieth beating Dustin and 2012 was Webb beating Furyk.

I wasn't very happy with the way it played out. Don't want to take anything away from Brooks or pile on the course, but if Chambers Bay gives us a top 10 with Speith, Dustin, Day, McIlory, Oosthuizen, Scott, Schwartzel, Snedeker, Grace, and Lowry and Erin Hills gives us what we had on Sunday then go back there and bring on the crappy greens.
