I don't think the course could possibly play easier than it's playing today.

Dustin Johnson is playing this course the way I did, spraying it into the fescue on every hole and struggling. May have given me a false idea about how tough it was.

Maybe -10 but not -20. Worst case Mike Davis will hand out a bunch of random penalties to the leaders on Sunday to keep the winning score from getting too low.

All the work she's had done is obvious which is a turn off and I don't think she's even 30 and looks in her 40's. You can have her.

Patience guys the Open will show its head.

Current longest consecutive U.S. Open starts streaks:

Ernie Els - 25

Jim Furyk - 22

Sergio Garcia - 18
Angel Cabrera

* Phil was on a 23 tournament streak.

* Also, this is the first major since the '94 Masters that doesn't have Tiger or Phil in the field.

Split off the last page of p0sts to create this thread. Not a lot of heart on display in this forum.

Have played Erin Hills twice. The hysteria this week serves as a reminder that it's a 24 hour news cycle and they'll talk about anything which might fill it. Rory is certainly more right than Kevin Na. There are miles between the high fescue and it's pretty damned far from unfair.

The other LOL-worthy thing is talking about what a tough walk it is. Not really. There are hills (not a surprise given the name of the course) and there are occasionally decent distances from green to tee but nothing which warrants discussion.

Then there is the OMG fourteen holes have blind shots!11!!!!1 Perhaps only in the most strictly defined way.

Things which should be talked about are the bizarre, occasionally tiny bunkers, or the bizarre history of the course, or what happened when the US Amateur was played here in 2011.

Probably posted it in my previous trip report but I generally like the course. One main nit is the layout. 14 holes play east / west, holes 2-8 and 12-18. Just a lot of out and back.

Anyway, holes to watch.

#2. It's probably a bit early in the round for a driveable par-4 but this could easily be set up that way. If they go for the green it's a blind shot to a very small green, but there isn't much danger around the green so many will probably consider it worth the risk.

#9. This hole seems to be getting a lot of press, and it should. It's a b.itch of a little hole and I think in three tries (hit a second ball last year) I missed the green badly each time. There's not much to hit, and if they short-side themselves they're screwed.

#10. The only hole which plays to the north. I think this was originally a par-5. Whatever it is it's one goddamned hard hole. Very long forced carry to an uphill fairway. Two tiered green which is fairly easy if you're on the proper level.

#14. This may be the most interesting hole on the course, if not the best. Apparently the fall-off on the right side of the green may be too severe for the speed of the greens and it falls way off to a collection area, so this hole may have more controversy than kudos. Too bad. It's a long double-dogleg par-5 which is all carry on the 2nd shot but there is room both long and left. It's also one of only two holes with a water hazard (#1 being the other) which runs down the right side.

#15. The other short par-4 on the course which can be made driveable without moving it up to the ladies' tees. It's the exact opposite of #2 in that the green is visible but it's also well-protected. This is the hole where the US Amateur turned when one of the players (Kelly Kraft?) had the wrong layup yardage as he and his caddie were referencing the wrong teebox. He hit it in the fairway bunker, lost the hole and his lead, and lost the event a couple holes later.

#18. Hopefully set up to a distance which entices players to have a go. Even though the second shot is all carry there is also a large bailout area to the right which should result in a pretty straightforward pitch and putt. Haven't had the displeasure of hitting it into the large, deep collection area behind this green but it's suppose to be no good.

You have to wonder what is going on when Rory and Day, two of the longest on tour are playing a hole so drastically different as they just played the 4th. Rory hit Driver and Day hit some sort of 2i hybrid. Someone's play is not optimal.

Ha just realized Rose hit #3wood on that hole and none of them hit the green. Day and Rose went over from the fairway and Rory fell short hitting from the rough. So you can use whatever you want and none of it works obv.

That 252 yard par 3 6th is awesome. At least the green is massive.
