I've been to KL many times, and although I also find this city quite boring and ugly, it's not that bad. It doesn't rain more than any other SE asian country (usually a few hours a day), muslims are tolerant and peaceful, and since 20% of the population is chinese there is a decent nightlife and you can get pissed or find girls quite easily.

Having lived near Marseille for 3 years, I agree that it's a ****ty city, but the weather is super nice all year, the calanques are really awesome, there is a beach and good scuba diving spots around, so it can't be the worst city in Europe... compared to Birmingham for example where there is **** all to do, it's not even close.

In the US Las Vegas was easily the worst city I've visited, surprised nobody mentionned it already.

Crap transport, hot and crowded. Not much to see.

I thought Milan was pretty rubbish too.
No way HCMC is on this list unless you don't like good looking young girls, good food and drinks at cheap prices. I believe the ratio of women to men in HCMC is something like 6:4. I haven't met anyone who doesn't like to party in HCMC. In my circle, booze, good food and good looking girls make for a good night out and HCMC have plenty of those!!! Not to mention a plethora number of massage parlors ranging from $5 USD to $30 USD for 1hr. HCMC has got to be one of the best places to party in the world. Hands down and it's cheap to do it. If you're old, HCMC might not be the best place to visit. But if you're under 30, HCMC is a baller place!!!!

Calgary:
- ridiculously spread out, the entire city is pretty much suburbs
- bars close at 2am
- lots of shady people downtown
- ridiculously cold temperatures in winter / insta-frostbite wind
- Stephen Harper comes from Calgary

Only semi-redeeming quality is that there are poker games going all the time at a variety of casinos.

This seems silly. It may not be a great city, but its better than everywhere else in alberta, saskatchewan, manitoba...

To stay on topic, I've only travelled through Canada and a few US states, but I'd have to say a tie between Regina(saskatchewan), and Detroit.

I thought this was about large cities in first world countries. Regina is not a large city, and although Detroit may also suck, I've never been there. Also, the only other semi-large city in Alberta is Edmonton, and it has a nicer downtown than Calgary by far. Also, the fact that Calgary produced Stephen Harper must not be overlooked. The ridiculous amount of driving necessary to get around in Calgary, combined with terrible Alberta drivers and terrible Alberta attitudes make it a cultural wasteland with few redeeming qualities in my book.

But interesting as hell which precludes them from this list IMO. If it was just dirty cities then you would have a point.

Great nightlife, relatively cheap, beautiful city, and great public transport.

As the worst city I would point out Moscow, Russia. I was born in Poland so I'm not really sensitive on this point, but it's scary as hell, there were moments I was afraid to leave my hotel...

+1 for Manchester, dirty, overcrowded, nothing to do there except go to the football stadium.

Edmonton in Canada is right up there as well. Terrible central city layout and nothing to do there,

Theres a city in New Zealand called Palmerston North which is absoultely horrific. John Cleese (Fawlty Towers guy) described it as the suicide capital of the world when he went there.

Yeah while I've certainly been to worse small cities, Manila is probably the worst major world city I've been to.

Super cheap beer, clubs/bars everywhere, hot womminz, safe to walk around at night. The only thing I hate is the indoor smoking.
