TheFly, I can't advise on what bands are popular or good because I populate my playlist randomly and very seldom
I hadn't heard about ETT before either.
A litmus test of whether a metal band is mainstream is whether it's listed at
darklyrics.com. If it isn't, then it's either underground (like ETT that
has only 2 full-length albums) or too pop like Korn (as a sign of contempt, DarkLyrics give an external link to AZLyrics instead of publishing Korn's lyrics at the site itself).
Speaking of the relation between headbanging and asexuality, I'd rather say that being asexual and especially aromanticism severely limit the range of listenable music genres because most modern songs are romantically (if not sexually) suggestive
Aces, mostly romantic ones, do listen to 'soft' rock genres, in particular, a significant part of them are fond of Morrissey, My Chemical Romance (both Morrissey and Gerard Way have ambiguous sexuality), Fall Out Boy, Paramore
For aromantics, it's much harder to find appropriate 'soft' music.
By a strange coincidence, the man whose
OOT AMA has explained asexuality to me and prompted me to inquire deeper into myself
digs Meshuggah \m/ too (though some of the stuff that he listens to is too aggro for me). I don't know if there's any causality
