Taiwan is such a strange place I feel like during the day all you see are guys then at night its a ridiculous 10000girl-1guy ratio. I went to Room 18 and Luxy alot this past summer and it was bananas. I'm moving to Shanghai as soon as I graduate this spring. But I have alot of family in Taiwan so I'll be traveling between the two. Can't Wait

I stayed at the Eight Elephants and had a great time there. The people that work there are extremely friendly. www.eehostel.com.

Where is that "Beverly Hills" situated? Which district. I have had a lot of trouble finding a ballin pad for a decent price. Im paying 44k/month for ~300sqf serviced apartment next to taipei 101. Those prices u mentioned seemed v cheap.

Hope all is well there.

Give us a fun story from the past week, to give me motivation to go.

I went to the Pingxi Lantern Festival on 2/28, just outside of Taipei. It was nuts. Over 200,000 people in a one-street market village. At 7:00pm we were ready to go, but we waited in a line 15 people wide and half a mile long, closer than shoulder-to-shoulder for 3 hours for a bus. Girls were dry-heaving beside me (perhaps as a ploy to get a medical escort out of the lineup) and Grandmother's were cutting me off left and right. The lanterns themselves were beautiful and the sky was littered with hundreds of them at a time. It was quite a sight to see a hundred or so of these big red and white paper lanterns float up into the night sky simultaneously and light it up with their flame. But there were way toooooo many people. A once in a lifetime thing to have do...literally, I know that I will never do that again.

Too lazy to write any stories... Taipei is really a nice place to stay after you start to understand things around here a bit.

How long would it take to understand things, as I dont plan on being there too many days. Is there a group of guys down there you hangout with from 2p2 or just people you know from there?

I dont know many 2p2ers from here (only 1) and there isnt many. I know some ppl around here though, its easy to meet new people here because they are v friendly most of the time. If you are going to stay only couple days then i just recommend you to try out the nice nightlife of taipei

It's literally Beverly Hills because it's in the hills, away from all traffic/sounds, next to great hiking, 7 minutes by motorbike/10 minute taxi to 101, and very nice. In Chinese it's Yi Chui Shan Zhuang, Xinyi District (Xinyi Qu and if the taxi doesn't recognize the name, it's near the Gong Gong Chi Che station on Wuxing Jie/SongRen Lu. You follow a path that leads up to the mountain. Foreigners will know the area from either its epic hiking or the fact that the entire area is centered around the Taipei Country Club: http://www.taipeicountry.com.tw/ec99/default.asp. I believe I also mentioned that prices are generally very steep, but we knew an Israeli guy who had to leave immediately and got an absolutely amazing deal on one of the nicer condos there.

If you work in the city commuting back and forth can be a b*tch and I wouldn't recommend it. But if you're a poker player IMO it's one of the best places to live. There are no sounds, you're surrounded by super anti-tilting nature/mountains, hikes readily available and the country club next door though it's not very nice honestly. You can also throw sick parties on your roof and have an amazing view of 101 and Taipei at night. No star gazing unfortunately.

My recommendation would be living somewhere in the Da'an, Gongguan, or Tien Mu district. It's next to all the MRTs/shopping/food/students/nightlife and cheaper. You can find nice apartments if you REALLY look hard ... meaning spend 2 weeks at a hostel/hotel and try to view several appts every day with several agencies.

Hey Jawks,

You've been in Taipei for several months now. How would you describe the daytime life/nighttime life for an American-Asian? Any interesting insight on your interactions with women? What area are you living in and do you enjoy it?

I'll try to find more. This was a picture of our living room. The condo was 42 ping; 3 br (2 + optional office), 2 full bathroom, kitchen, living room, dining room, balcony, back balcony for washing/hanging clothes.
