pretty sick, went to mainly malls (101, sogo, new york) and night markets. definitely felt a lot different than bangkok, more like an american city. night markets are a lot of fun to go to, shilin seems like a great place to dick around. food is great too. really wish i could have checked out the nightlife though.

For tourist visas, yeah they're pretty short. But you can always do visa runs and re-new them. Don't know the logistics too well behind visa runs though.

Sorry I didn't understand.

What do you mean by " But you can always do visa runs and re-new them." ?

I have to go out taiwan each 30 days (for hong kong for example) and come back in Taiwan after few days ?

There is no problem after 3-4 times ?

hi, for under 30day, you don't need visa
you just have to leave taiwan on the 30th day and you can even come back at the same day.
but flight ticket is not free. maybe cheaper to apply for a 3 month or 6 month visa

Guys all of these questions are answered in depth on www.tealit.com.

If it's not on tealit it will be on http://www.forumosa.com/taiwan/

You can get a 30 day landing visa, but you'll need to leave to HK/Macau on the 30th day and come back. If you overstay you pay a fine. Any time over 1 month and you pay 300$ USD and are banned for 1 year. FWIW having a 'persona non gratis' stamp on your passport can get you denied by other countries.

You can get 60-day multiple entry visas for up to 6 months at any TECO (Taiwan Economic and Cultural Affairs Office) office worldwide. They are all over the place. http://www.boca.gov.tw/content.asp?CuItem=1900. Essentially you can stay for up to 2 months, three times. The benefit of this visa is that instead of having to leave Taiwan, you can just have it extended every 2 months while staying here. So really only need to leave twice a year to get a new one.

Hey, I'm going to move Taipei in a month or so, and I was just wondering if you guys could give suggestions about which area in Taipei I should look into moving.

I'm 25 and would like to live in area with restaurants and bars and stuff. I'm looking for an apartment for one and am willing to spend anywhere up to 30k NTD.

You can get a sweet new appt decked out for like 20-25k in Xinyi which is like the new industrial park area of Taipei (surrounding 101 etc). It's next to a few of the upscale restaurants/nightclubs and like 5-10 minute taxi to everything else in the city. It's definitely the nicest, cleanest area of Taiwan.

Most young people live near the university part of town which would be Guting. Tons of restaurants and bars, sports, hotties, etc. Much cheaper and a bit more crowded/dirty. Da'an is also a great area of similar caliber.

You can find a ton of appts on www.tealit.com

I'm going to be supporting myself supporting myself through poker, so a fast, reliable internet connection is going to be crucial for me. I was just wondering if getting a decently fast internet connection is pretty easy in Taiwan? Is this an issue which I should look out for when I'm looking for a place to rent?

I'm moving from China, and it was a pretty big hassle here. I had to get the landlord and stuff to set it up, and the connection was pretty damn iffy.

Basically, for fast internet should I be looking for a newer apartment building where they have newer cables? Or is the internet speed pretty universal across the board? I also don't mind paying for the internet.

Unrelated, but did you teach english in china or how were you able to stay there?

Also always best to look for a place with an already working internet connection.

i would recommand you get your own line.
alot of p2p downloading for moving on a shareline.
internet is stable, and cheap.
in fact, you can get a 10mb land line + 3.5G (2mb) mobile connection and still pay less then $50usd.

price wise there is not much difference
quality of land base internet line is good.
however the mobile wireless internet will depend on where you live, and how many tower they got in around the place you live.
there is big difference in 3.5g and 3g. speedwise.

Few questions:

How's the midweek partying in Taipei? ie. Mon-Thur nights.

How much are personal trainers per hour?

OP, I saw somewhere you train at an MMA/BJJ gym - got a link?

Thanks.

Has anyone flown Taiwan's EVA Air Evergreen Deluxe/Elite Class? Is it worth the extra money(about $200 or so for a one way trans-pacific flight from the USofA) over economy?
