Hey guys i´ve been to Taipei for a month in october and may go there for longer now. I play HT HUSNGs on stars. The only thing i´m worried about is that i get a proper internet connection (without too much lag). What do you guys use or what experiences did you make?

Cheers.

I doubt there are many places in the world with better internet than Taipei.

Well, the latency is not good imo, compared to the internet i have in Germany, at least when it comes to playing on stars.

During my stay in October I played from a place in Keelung and that was really bad, it was a bit better in Taipei (although i really didnt know who the providers were as i just rented tourist apartments back then) but still a bit on the slower side. Probably doesnt matter much when playing cash or MTTs but for SNGs and getting lobbies even with add. seating software its critical imo. Thats why i´m asking. My friend in Taiwan told me i could get 100/100 MB which is probably fibre optics and probably the fastest i could get (in terms of latency - not that one would need 100/100). Any experiences with it, and providers i should avoid?

Problem with internet in Taipei is it's really fast to other places in Taipei. I have had a lot of issues when connecting to websites located in the west and the speeds aren't that fast.

0 issues with pokerstars. You should be perfect OK there.

Haha, okay, due to my limited chinese knowledge, i basically have very little experience surfing taiwanese sites and services . Can any of you maybe recommend a good place for a chinese language course in Taipei where you also can mingle a bit and get to know others?

There has been a lot of discussion about girls in this thread, maybe i share what i experienced so far. About my situation, to get caucasian type of girls, i literally have to work my butt off to get anywhere, yet the easiest (sorry for the term) girls always have been Taiwanese and Chinese girls for me ( never been around too many others countries). So i had some experience at my home turf with them and i was wondering how this would work at their turf. I read the articles on how difficult it is for foreigners with no Chinese language knowledge to meet/date girls... I call BS on that.

I´m not the kind of guy who chats up girls on the street at all and i´m not 1.90 and look like Ryan Lochte either so i still have to work for it as i can´t just stand in the corner and get marriage proposals left and right, but talking them up on the internet really worked well for me (and i didnt even tell them some BS that i would stay there for long or do some fancy work - granted i did not really mention i play poker, that imo will scare them, but then again, that wont be my profession anyways in years to come). So i would talk to them a couple weeks prior to coming to Taiwan, and then just schedule dates. Worked like a charm and during that month i was down there, i was really busy... The only girl that stood me up... was caucasian LOL.

Some of the girls i met were only interested in shorties but a few were also interested in dating and taking it longer term and clearly indicating that they wouldnt go for a ONS. But that wouldnt mean they wouldnt give in within a week or so. So in this regard, Taiwan to me is an awesome place (ofc it has many more advantages )

Initally i used i-part, pretty much biggest site for Taiwan by far- that was pretty much a fail as this gives you the impression whole Taiwan couldnt speak a word of english and the whole site is in chinese, but if you want you can use google.translate to get around.
Then i discovered OKcupid. The girls on there normally put up their profile in English, and seem to be a lot more interested in westerners. The site in itself is pretty fun and the question part let to some interesting discussions .

Actually I played $60-$100 PokerStars. FTP played $30 as well because higher was so slow action and because of that I forget many times that I have registered on tourneys, and left from comp lol.

Now I am back in cashgames.

Yea I'm keen for some ball, I've played a bit at some local courts but haven't been to the 101 courts yet, looks sick though.

Can you just walk on.. or is there some kinda etiquette to the game? Those courts do look elite, but the players I seen playing many times are wack.
