My apologies if a similar thread already exists, i was unable to find one.

Hi everyone, I hope I picked the right thread to ask this question.

To keep it short - the missus and I are visiting Rome this summer, and we really love to have a pig out while traveling. Her favorite food is cacio and pepe, so I plan to take her to a really nice and fancy place that serves a mean one. If not, other local Italian food will do.

So, Tripadvisor's top result is the (conveniently named) Cacio e Pepe restaurant (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...ome_Lazio.html), but with a 3.5 average grade, I have my doubts. The alternative is the Felice a Testaccio (https://www.tasteatlas.com/FeliceATestaccio), a restaurant that this website Taste Atlas has as its top pick for cacio e pepe.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions for a great cacio and pepe, as well as other places to visit for good traditional Italian food!

Forget TripAdvisor for food recommendations. The eater.com lists are generally pretty reliable and will help you eat well for zero effort. You can find the Rome one here: https://www.eater.com/maps/best-rome-restaurants. Otherwise if you want to dig deeper you can search blogs or chowhound.com. Additionally, there's an app called "Eat Italy" which has a Rome edition and at least past editions had very good recommendations.

Personally, I would absolutely not miss Pizzarium and Roscioli (caveats apply: https://katieparla.com/recommending-...-reservations/). Cesare al Casaletto seems to be on most bloggers lists, though I've not made it myself.

edit: should add that I recall the cacio e pepe being very good at Roscioli.

Wow eater is amazing. Now I'm pissed I didn't know about it before traveling through Peru, but I'm already uncovering some hidden gems in Mexico City that I probably would have never found otherwise b/c the cities so damn big.

Hm, didn't even think of Eater, to be honest... Thanks, I'll be sure to have a look.

One of the best experiences of my (extensive) gastronomic life was at Ad Hoc in Rome. Truffle menu if it's on menu is the way to go. I did a TA review last year: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...ome_Lazio.html

Actually, I'm afraid I've undersold this place with just that amount of detail. It's the second best meal I've had in my three years in Europe and I rate it above (the admittedly phenomenal) three-starred Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester.
