I think you can take a great advantage from the wristband (or tourist image) - the'll never consider you a real threat, at least at the first day.

The band has a number so the floorman could make a note how many hours did you play i.e. you are eligible to get your hotel for free. Of course, it's basically spare change, but most of the players are Jewish, so...

You could take it of, at least outside of casino, it's not fixed like at all inclusive holliday resorts.

At 50/50 you can expect a very few regs, at 50/100 more of them, again, when you hear Czech language, make a mental exclamation mark. Some pros don't speak very much but they can't help themselves, the way they are treating the chips and cards is going to reveal them anyway.

Hey everybody,
after looking at a few possible destinations, I am strongly considering to move to Prague (mainly to play online) and would love to ask a few questions regarding taxes and bureaucracy of moving as citizen of another EU country.

It'd be awesome if one of you living there could send me a PM to get in touch on Skype. I play PLO midstakes and would happily give coaching to return the favor. Of course, I'll buy you a beer when I get there as well.

Thanks a lot!

Bear in mind some threads about the possibility of a changing online poker market here in CZE. Some on 2+2 are saying the new CZE laws/regulations won't effect online poker, but I'm not sure if there is a definitive answer out there on this subject.

If you are an EU citizen then enjoy your visa free tax free stay. I'd be surprised if there was anything to worry about in regards to this.

Nope. Now you can play without limitations and soon it will be even legal, because actual law is going to change to be harmonized with EU law, which says that online poker is ok. And the Czech government doesn't have any intention to create like a one state market or so. The newly introduced censorship of poker websites is not an issue either since poker companies are not going wild in this department. So, happy grinding!

I'm going to be in Prague for several days between Christmas and New Years (and may stay for NYE) and was wondering if you could help with a hotel recommendation. I'm coming with my wife, so the trip will be mostly sightseeing, but I do plan to get in a little live poker as well. We're planning to stay at either the Prague Marriott located at V Celnici 1028/8, or the Boscolo Prague at Senovazne namesti 13/991. Is one better located or appreciably better than the other? The cost itself will not be an issue or a factor in our decision.

One other minor point. We're planning to take a train from Dresden to Prague on Christmas Day itself. Will this pose any type of travel problem for us? If so, we can alter our plans to come a day earlier or a day later if necessary.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Not much to add. Just that here in CZE Dec. 24 is a bigger/more important day than Dec. 25.

The hotels are basically at the same distance from Ambassador casino where is the most cashgame action, so no problem here. Check the tournament schedule for Showdown, located at Wenceslas Square as well. Train station is not far either. And yes 24th is Christmas so be prepared for a slow day :-)

Thanks for the responses. We'll be in Dresden on the 24th, so we'll be prepared for a slow night there. Then we'll plan to take the train to Prague after breakfast on the 25th.

I'm finally coming to Prague to grind. Been on my mind for years but always ended up somewhere else. I arrive on the 15th November

Is it realistic to find a decent apartment (studio or one bedroom) for 15.000?

Am I right thinking https://www.bezrealitky.cz is the main site for commission free apartments? Any other suggestions greatly appreciated, private contacts etc.

Thanks

Normally there's a limited selection on bezrealitky. I normally use www.sreality.cz, you'll have to pay commission on those apartments, but you'll have a far greater choice.

Appreciate it. Zone 1 and 2 only options worthwhile? Some nice apartments in 7 for example.

I'd suggest districts other than 1 and 2. You'll save money and avoid the bulk of the tourists. The transportation is world-class, so getting around the city is a breeze. I live in 7 which is a solid option (can also recommend 5, 6, and parts of 10 near 2, 3, and 4).

I've lived in prg 2 for a while now, and its great. Not overly touristy, but it still has the benefits of being very close to the center.

If you want to save cash, zizkov (prg 3) is a great option. Also, Karlin is worth a mention. Good location, trendy stuff around, and hilton casino/poker room is there.

Wherever you choose, make sure a metro stop is a short walk away.

Fair enough, but 2, in general, is going to be more expensive.

I don't think you need to be near a metro stop per se, but a tram stop sure. With winter coming, nothing worse than a 10 minute walk to the tram stop ... seeing the tram ... running and then having the door close on your face. I live 15 meters from a tram stop, use the Android app, walk out my door to see the tram coming down the street.

It really depends on what you want. I live in Prague 1 as I like living in the centre and being within walking distance of nightlife and my gym. I can understand why people wouldn't want to pay extra for that, especially when the transport is so good. Personally I'd never outside Prague 1 or 2 though.

I lived in Prague for a year in 3 different apartments. First Prague 1 opposite rocky o'reillys, second place Prague 5 Slavy Hornika and Prague 5 Andel finally. My favourite place was Andel I loved that area. But P 7, 10, 5, 3, 2 and 1 are all solid options. If I went to live back in Prague I would lean towards P3, 5 or 7 though.

I need to sell a bunch of household items: wardrobe, kitchen supplies, a tent, golf clubs, etc. I know about sbazar.cz (seznam.cz's portal), but are there any other big sites I should know about?

Appreciate the info guys. Thanks for taking your time. I might have some more questions later. Will rent an Airbnb for a couple of days, search online and hopefully have some appointments for when I arrive.

Does anyone know if you can pick up an uber from the airport in Prague?

Not sure. If not, just download an app called Liftago to your phone and roll with that.

Watch on YouTube Honest Guide Prague, tells you how to take public transit from airport to Wenceslas Sq for like €2.

3. I live in Vinohrady (prague 2) and it seems to be the best of everything. Its quiet and very close to the city center.

4. I dont play much live but the Hilton has 25/50 and 50/100Kc (~20Kc = 1$). The games typically have 400-500bb max buyins so it can play super deep.

5. Awesome nightlife, especially for the price. Tons of students/hot girls/etc
Couldn't have summed this up better, I traveled there when I was a teen so I can't really say much about gambling but the living expense is so low and its just such a great experience

Is anyone interested in buying a 32' HD Samsung screen? Its stuck in storage and I need to return to Prague to do a few things anyway this month. I cant remember the exact model but I used it for 2 months last year before moving away. Its in it original box. Will give a decent discount off current RRP. Hit me up, cheers.
