Hey there!

This is my first thread on 2 + 2. I'm a highstakes reg (2k-5k), and I'm currently living in Lima and will be staying here for the next year or so. It would be really cool to meet up with other pro poker players to discuss poker or just hang out. Haven't met any so far, so let me know if you live here too!

Hey mate, i´m in Lima, too.

You found any casinos with liveaction (1k+) and reasonable rake?

Hey mate

I've only played cash at Atlantic City once (did the LAPT a couple of times), think it was 10-10 soles. Honestly, I almost never bother with live poker - it's too slow for me

Just out of curiosity, what do you do in Lima? How old are you and how long have you been here for?

I'm 28 and have been here for almost a year now. Besides poker I'm setting up a project in Lima with a friend.

Btw - if anybody has any questions about Lima (pros/cons), I'd be happy to answer them.

Hi iGood, I'm moving to Lima from Canada in October to play poker and travel around SA for 6 months or so.

I am learning Spanish but at the moment I can barely speak it, should I start really working on it or will I be fine the first month or so until I learn enough to get by ?

Have you tried crossing any borders close by? I want to go to Chile for sure, looks like it's pretty easy to travel country to country. I expect to meet people down there but I'm going solo, is traveling alone stupid like everyone back home is telling me (I kind of like a little risk but I don't want to be taking unnecessary ones)

Are you happy with your move to Lima? Do you wish you moved to a different city in SA?

How is the internet/cell phone service in Peru?

Thanks!

iGood, I used to live in Lima and I will be coming back. I play the same limits you do. I think I know who you are on Stars.

Anyways, PM me.

Hi again guys, sorry for the late reply

@pohlr
I think you'll be fine as long as you sign up for a Spanish school when you arrive (I can recommend one). You'll learn it much faster when you're in a spanish speaking country anyway. Also, it's a good way to meet other foreigners/get a crowd you can hang out with and go out with at the weekends. Either way it's of course always good to know the language (I've always made that effort when I've lived abroad), also to avoid getting ripped off constantly - and it's of course more fun when you can actually talk to people, learn about the culture etc.

I've always travelled alone and never had any problems. People back home always think everything is dangerous so I wouldn't pay attention to that :-) Having said that, you should always take certain precautions, but Lima is not particularily dangerous as long as you avoid certain places.

I once flew from Lima down to Tacna, then crossed the Peruvian-Chilean border to renew my visa, so that should be pretty easy.

The Internet is not as fast as back home, but honestly I haven't had any problems in regard to playing poker.

I am quite happy here in Lima, yeah. People are really friendly, and I like their dialect of Spanish, which also is one of the best for beginners as they speak more slowly than in other SA countries. They have world class food (which really came as a surprise to me) -try to google some pictures of Ceviche or Lomo Saltado! I also like the girls, when one knows where to look. There are plenty of activities you can enjoy in Lima, so you wont get bored. The weather is a bit funny - if youll like it or not depends on what you want. The temperature is often 18-22 degrees celcius, so pretty comfy without getting too cold or too hot. On the downside Lima can be a grey at times which is a bit depressing. They don't have great beaches either, especially if you're used to Southeast Asia.

As for Lima conmpared to other SA cities, it really depends on what you're looking for. In terms of nightlife, Buenos Aires was amazing and probably better. Rio has better beaches than Lima. Overall I would say Lima is a pretty cool place for the reasons listed above. Feel free to ask other questions!

@NLman
I dont play stars so dont think you know me! Anyway, tried to send you a PM but I cant seem to make it work for some reason. Maybe you can send your skype account to someone else who can pass it on to me?

@Scipio
Just added you on Skype!

Just bumping the Peru thread in case somebody overlooked it. I think it would be cool to organize some sort of 2 plus 2 dinner (as they do in other places) or meet up for a beer with people living here. Let me know!

You need at least Spanish_101 from a good
Community College before you leave. 2
Semesters would be the Nuts. Local language
schools tend to rush in the beginner stages.

It sounds like you have traveled around SA quite a bit now. What would you say the top three places for a poker player to live are if given the choice of anywhere to go..? What do you like about Lima relative to BA and Rio? Is it better than the other two in some ways? Obviously this is subjective but just curious what your opinions are

not the OP, but i've been to all of the above.

lima is significantly cheaper than both ba/rio. obviously spanish is different than portuguese as well (in brazil).

that's pretty much it. there is alot of adventure stuff you can do in peru (machu picchu/lots of stuff north and south for cheap. but if you can afford it, ba/rio are both better in nearly every aspect IMO. (and this isn't really knocking lima either. i enjoyed lima quite a bit when i was there. rio and ba were just more fun).

Ez game, cancel the ticket and stay for 1 more yr

Btw, if anyone is looking to come to Lima some time before April, I might be renting out the 2-nd room in my apartment (it is in Miraflores, right next to the ocean).

Was wondering if your still interested in renting a room? Looking at staying for a minimum of 1 month, perhaps longer. If not no problem ive been looking around, otherwise be keen to have a beer sometime, same goes Igood. Take it easy...

Hi, I was thinking of planning a trip to Lima, however I can't seem to get any definite information about what the rake of the cash games spread the in the casinos is.

In this thread 4% capped at 75 sols is mentioned : http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/27...a-peru-800787/ .

And I have also heard people saying the rake is 5% uncapped.

Does anyone know for sure what the rake is in any of the cash games available in lima?

Thanks

Phil

personally, i think lima is quite a bit better value than BA (haven't been to rio). if you have lots of money to spend then yeah you can probably live it up a bit more in BA, but i think your money will go further in lima... jmo

lima is actually really safe... i think it gets a bad rap, it obviously has some bad parts but none of those parts any gringo would go to anyway. i can't image anything happening to a tourist in miraflores, san isidro, or the other places most tourists would be staying

Hi there.....I am considering moving to Lima. I am from Canada and have lived in Argentina for almost 2 years. My spanish is about 50 % and I can generally get by and speak to most people or almost understand them. I would like to live in the gringo area like miraflores or san isidro. In Buenos Aires I paid 600 US for a furnished studio apartment with all utilities included and internet.

My questions are:

1. How much would I pay for a small studio apartment completely furnished?
2. What are the download speeds of the internet?
3. How long does it take to do a visa run and what are the costs?
