I am a retired poker pro now just enjoying life with fine dining, dating and exploring new countries. I was never in SA or any spanish speaking country. Debating between these 3 destinations as a potential base for the next 6 months, since some of my friends told me Mexico is freest country on earth right now.

I speak 0 Spanish, would that be a problem for a normal life and dating?
What would be some pros and cons of these 3 destinations I am deciding between? Just got a word from a German guy that "tulum is expensive so be prepared", how expensive is it really?

How is the visa situatiun, easy to obtain and then extend after 3-6 months?
Is it normal to rent a place for 6 months in Mexico like its in Asia?

Lived in Playa for a few years, I speak minimal Spanish and it was never an issue. Only been to Tulum for a Beach trip and Cancun for a party so wont be able to help you much there other than Tulum seemed slightly less 'Touristy'(although still more so than your average Mexican town). They are all within an hours drive of each other, so no problem to visit all 3 and see which one suits you best.

Playa had and likely still has a large Poker community, so decent to start there.

Mexico was much cheaper than Thailand in my experience, depending on how you live ofc.

Best visa situation of any country ive spent a long time in, 6 months on arrival, and never had any questions doing runs. Make sure you keep the piece of paper they give you on arrival though, as they charge you like $25 when exiting if you lose it.

In regards to dating, im sure the landscape is much different in covid to what it was like before, lack of Spanish shouldnt be a game breaker but ofc it will help if you know some.

in bangkok it was like, ok choose between these condos with pool and gym...

apartment like 60sqm on the good location with not too far from the beach but also close to some mall or similar with shitloads of food optins, would be like 600 eur i assume?

is there a skype group or similar of poker players living there, so I could meet some grinders as well?

Somewhat similar, I stayed in grind houses for the most part and only went via agents once, in which I paid like $400/month for a place with pool, gated, perfect location just off 5th(main street), 100 yards from the beach. They have low and high seasons also so ofc that was in the off season. On avg id expect to be paying 600+ if you want somewhere nice.

Would recommend searching facebook marketplace for rentals in the area to see what the current market looks like during covid, imagine there is alot of good deals around.
